Causes of a bad Drain Pump can include clogging from small garments or debris, motor failure, or damage to the pump impeller.

Symptoms of a bad Drain Pump include:

  • Water not draining out of the washing machine,
  • Unusual noises coming from the pump area during the drain phase,
  • The washer stopping mid-cycle.

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Hello Rick, unfortunately we do not have a repair video for this part at this time, however, you can check the video for part WH01X10302 as it shows how to remove the front panel and the drain pump is located on the base in front. You need to drain out any water, disconnect the tubing then disconnect the pump wiring and unscrew the pump mounting next.

Hello Tom, the usually checks are the washer cabinet is level, legs locked on a stable floor, check/replace the tub suspension/dampening rods, check inner tub is not loose or leaning inside the outer tub, check the balance ring at top of the inner tub, lastly, check where the water leak is from.

Bob, the washer will retain some water in the tub due to the drain pump having to work against gravity to get the water out. However, there should not be very much water left in the tub, at most a thin amount at the base. For the odor, it would be recommended that the washer is ran through an empty cycle with Affresh W10549845 every so often and that the lid is left open when done with the washer.

Brian for Model Number GTWN2800D1WW

At the end of the cycle the drain pump turns on and begins to drain the water as it should and the basket spins up to full speed as it should. The problem is I always have a little bit of water left in the bottom of the tub and for some reason the timer stops advancing right before the end of the cycle. The clothes are always very damp when it stops. With the front of the washer removed, I noticed when the basket was spinning what looked like excessive soap suds so I kept filling the washer then advancing the timer to the drain / spin part of the cycle. Probably 8 times. I couldn't get rid of the soap suds. At least it looks like soap suds. I can remove the hose from the bottom of the outer tub and the remaining water pours out. So no blockage and the drain pump works fine at the start of the drain / spin part of the cycle. At the end of the cycle the drain pump is running but not pumping any water out. I'm at a loss. Thanks.

Brian, Check the drain hose for kinks and clogs, and make sure the hoses isn't sealed to the standpipe or "stuffed" down the standpipe and causing a restricted drain. The suds could be the "cavitation" effect of the wash and drain cycles, but not likely. Make sure you're using the proper amount of detergent for the load size and condition/soil level of the load. If all checks are OK, then replace the drain pump, There would be a problem in the drain motor or the impeller inside the pump.

Wally, With water dripping into the tub then this would be a faulty water valve on the unit and will need to replace the water valve.

Stephen, You will want to check the drain pump to make sure that there is nothing caught in the drain and if this checks ok then the issue will be a faulty drain pump.
