The Oven Igniter is an OEM replacement part for GE ovens, designed to ignite the bake igniter to start the heating process. This part is responsible for creating the spark that ignites the gas, providing the heat needed to cook and bake food. Over time, the oven igniter can wear out or become damaged, which can prevent the oven from heating.

Symptoms of a bad Oven Igniter include:

  • The oven not heating up at all.
  • The oven taking longer than normal to heat.
  • Gas smell in the oven due to gas being released without ignition.
  • A clicking sound without the oven igniting.

Causes of a bad igniter can include normal wear and tear over time, exposure to excessive heat or moisture, or physical damage from impact or mishandling.

This OEM GE part can also be used on Hotpoint, RCA, and Kenmore/Sears appliances.

IMPORTANT: The connector plug may need to be cut off and igniter wires connected to range wires using porcelain wire connectors.

Tom, A weak, malfunctioning oven burner igniter WB13K21 can and will create the issues you're describing. 95% of gas oven temperature problems are due to a weak igniter. Replacing the igniter should be the first step to make. Good Luck

Robert, You will want to check the oven bake igniter to make sure that it is coming on. If it is then check to make sure that the oven safety valve is getting 3.2 to 3.6 vac. If there is no proper power to the oven safety valve then the igniter will be faulty. If there is proper power then the issue will be with the oven safety valve. If the igniter is not coming on then verify 120 vac to the igniter. If there is proper power then the igniter is faulty and if there is no power then the control board will be the issue.

Hello Chris. You need to make sure the igniter is not weak. If the igniter is good, then you will need to order and replace the gas safety valve on the unit. If all burners are doing this, then you will need to check the pressure regulator on the unit.

Hello Patty. You will need to check the igniter on the unit. As for the flame, make sure the burner and orifice are clean and not rusted. Also, make sure the unit is set to the proper gas type. Test for 3.0-3.6 volts AC at the gas safety valve with the igniter turned on. If the voltage is there, you have a bad safety valve. If the voltage is low, you have a weak igniter and the igniter will need to be replaced. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Dianne, The orifices will be located on the oven safety valve located in the back of the unit. It sounds like the unit was converted to LP but maybe the oven was not converted. To do this you would need to get to the safety valve and tighten the orifice all the way down and open the air shutter on the burner.
