The Primary and Secondary Door Switch is an OEM replacement part for GE microwaves. This part interrupts the power supply to the microwave when the door is opened.

Causes of bad door switches can include regular wear and tear, electrical malfunctions, or physical damage from slamming the door.

Symptoms of a bad Primary and Secondary Door Switch include:

  • The microwave not starting or operating intermittently
  • The appliance operating with the door open
  • The interior light not turning on or off appropriately

This OEM GE part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Jeremy for Model Number ZE2160SF05

Was cooking something (probably too long) and the microwave basically blew a fuse and stopped working towards the end of the heating cycle (probably 5 minutes into a 6 minute set time). The lights and keypad went dark. I removed the microwave from the shelf and tried to plug into a different outlet to no avail. Opened the unit and found the 250v/20amp fuse blew and replaced it. Now the unit powers up with lights on, clock set etc. but when I press start (say on a 1 minute quick warm option) it clicks as if it's going to start but doesn't even though the clock starts counting down. What part/parts do you think I need to replace to get this working? Seems like some thermo switch was triggered. BTW, it's a GE Monogram microwave built in 2014. Thanks!

Jeremy, If nothing on the unit starts when you push the start button then this issue would most likely be a faulty control board. The TCO's in the unit would cause the unit to not operate at all including the display. The only one that would not allow heating would be the magnetron thermostat but would not cause other components to not work .

Hi, I have found our MV's 20 Amps fuse blown due to primary interlock (top Horizontal mounted) switch got bad. I have replaced both primary & monitor (middle, mounted vertically) switches together. Now cavity lamp remains stay on when door either open or closed.there are two more switches side by side behind the push button, one might be secondary interlock with two prongs next ones might be for cavity lamp with three prongs (SPDT) switch. what are the chances that lamps switch got stuck in NC position. Please let me know. Regards, Kazim N

Hello Kazim. You will need to check the wiring on the new switches you installed. It is not likely the relay got stuck, unless you tried working on the unit with live power and shorted something out. Double check you wiring on the unit.

Sharon, If you select a cycle and the unit automatically goes to timer then there is a fault in the control board which is part number WB27X10674.

I've determined a switch problem my be causing my intermittent heating (timer continues but nothing else at random times). As per discussions on this board I've ordered the primary/secondary switch, switch substitute and switch interlock. However, when I examine the microwave it seems that there are four switches. Three around the lower latch (the two lowest are sandwiched around the lock plate 2 connecter and 3 connecter, with the third just above the lower latch. Finally a 4th switch is activated by the upper latch. Am I missing something? If so I'd like to add it to my order under this email. Thank you for your help!

Song, You will need to remove the cabinet of the microwave to replace the interlock switch. Once removed there are spring clips that hold the interlock in place. Take the switch out of the spring clips and disconnect the wires. Install on new switch and install the new switch.

Hello Sharon, there is a service bulletin on this issue. It reads as follows: If you are servicing a microwave with consumer concerns of “Sensor Error” in the display after using one of the sensor functions (for example, Beverage), replace the Smart Board. The part number for the Smart Board is WB27X10688, WB27X10688.

My microwave would intermittently work and when microwave did not come on the time still counted down. Since the problem was intermittent, I thought that it might be one of the switches so I replaced the following which I ordered from you and still have the same problem. AP2024332 (WB24X824) 2-AP3186054 (WB24X10103) Now microwave counts down but the microwave portion does not come on at all. Any suggestions before I purchase a new microwave???? Thanks, Earl Daigle

Hello Earl. If the switches are new and hooked up properly, it sounds like the hook WB05X10009 and the spring WB05X10010 in the door needs to be checked and see if they are broke. If so, you will need to replace the broken part.
