Mr Felde September 27, 2016 for Model Number DDE5300BBL My dryer works fine for about 10 to 15 minutes on high heat setting. Then the circuit breaker cuts the power off. I usually wait for 5min before resetting breaker to finish drying. This has been going on for about a year now. We had an appliance guy come out said it was the breaker. Then we just had electrician guy say it was the dryer and did not replace the breaker. I think its the cycle thermostat.
1 Answer Mr Felde, With this issue you will want to check the wiring of the dryer for any bare wires, check to make sure that the heating element is not making contact with the heater housing as this could also cause the issue. The cycling thermostat would not cause the unit to trip the breaker. In most cases this would be a weak breaker and it would need to be replaced. Read More...
Tom May 24, 2016 for Model Number GE dde 7900mal My drier does nothing when I try to start it. Literally nothing. The light does come on in the drum and I've tested that it's getting proper voltage, I replaced the door switch (not required). I'm slowly finding additional sensors and switches to test, but I'm wondering if these Upper and Lower Thermostats would prevent a drier from starting? In my drier they are not to easy to get to so I haven't tested them yet..if that's even possible.
1 Answer Tom, Yes the thermostats or thermal fuse could cause the unit to not start and you would want to get in and test all of them. Also test power where the power cord reaches the terminal block on the unit. Read More...
Tammi December 09, 2015 for Model Number DDE5100RALWH Hello. My dryer spins but will not heat up. It does occasionally and when it does, it gets very hot. Also, I broke the temperature setting know as well as the stem(?) that the knob slides onto. Any suggestions? Thank you very much.
1 Answer Hello Tammi. You will need to check the thermostats on the unit and the element and if they are good, you will need to replace the timer on the unit. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Lesa June 22, 2015 for Model Number DDE5300velwh My dryer runs but will not heat up. Can you help me please? I now have a multimeter.
1 Answer Hello Lesa. Check and make sure you have 240 volts coming to the dryer. Check and make sure the unit is not set to Air Fluff. Also check the heater and thermostats and see if they are good. You can test these with a multi-meter MA-DM1. They should read closed for continuity. Kelly May 03, 2011 for Model Number DDE5300GBL The dryer does not always heat and dry the laundry. It'll work maybe for 1 or 2 loads and then no heat. If you play with all the controls it may work but usually the dryer has to sit for a long period of time for it to work again. Everything seems to work except the heat at times. It was looked at by an appliance repairman and couldn't find anything wrong with it. Then the next day the very first load of laundry would not dry. But this evening the heat is working. I suspect that the thermostat may be flaking out and turning off the heat sometimes? Just my guess. What do you think? Thanks, Kelly
1 Answer Hello Kelly. You can test the thermostat when the unit does not dry and see if it is open. If so, you will need to replace it. You can test this with a multi-meter MA-DM1. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. Hope this helps. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
