For Ge Tub Assembly (Wash Tub) (Part Number: OEM17420940)

Jtm for Model Number GE GTWN4250D0WS

I am replacing a leaking tub seal (wh02x10383) for washer model GE GTWN4250D0WS and not certain if I have failed to completely remove the old tub seal or if there is a pressed in metal landing for this washer tub assembly that should not be removed. Several videos of this GE washer model appear to show the tub assembly is only the tub mold (with no metal landing). So either I have a slightly different version of this tub assembly or what I see "pressed in" to the tub assembly (where the tub seal would land) is part of the old seal. The part is clearly metal but I believe the tub seal is reinforced with metal so possibly it is still stuck in the washer tub assembly.

1 Answer

Hello Jtm, There should be no metal in the bottom of the tub assembly when the seal is removed. The part you are referring to should be removed before installing the new seal.

Rick for Model Number whsdr315daww

I just finished replacing the tub assembly on this washer and got everything reassembled fine. I just did a test run and noticed that there is a moderately loud friction/grinding sound for about two seconds when spin cycles start and stop. I don't know if the machine made that sound before this repair job. I followed the repair videos and am pretty sure I got all parts reinstalled, plus there are no spare parts left lying around. I am wondering if maybe I overtightened something - in particular the hub nut. Any clues? Is this a problem? Have I got to break it down again to investigate?

1 Answer

Hello Rick. You can try loosening the nut to see if it helps, but it may need to be taken back apart to see what is binding.

John, You will want to check the suspension rods and springs to ensure that they are good as this is the most common reason for the off balance issue. The suspension rods for the unit are part number WH16X10158 and WH16X10159 and would need 2 of each.

Jose, Unfortunately the manufacturer does not give a part number for the hub and it is not available as a separate part. The tub assembly would have to be purchased WH45X20473.

David, The tub of the unit does not have a bearing pressed to it and you would not need the tub for the unit.

Hello Jack, In order to get the agitator off you would grab the base of the agitator and lift straight out. You may have to move it around as you are pulling but it will lift out. Nothing under the fabric cup needs to be taken out.

The part # I'm looking for is not a seal. I'll explain it again, maybe better this time. I already bought the seal Pt # AP3156169. If you ook at the bottom view of the tub assembly Pt # AP2047609 on your web site. It shows a bearing with two ears and that bearing is held on with one screw. You have to scroll down to the picture of the part then down to where it shows three smaller views. Click on the right one (Bottom view) and then enlarge it. This shows the bottom of the tub assembly as it is positioned in the machine. (Not the inside of the tub that has water in it). The transmission shaft is inserted up through the internal bearing diameter of this bearing. This is the bearing I'm looking for. Thanks for your support, hope this is a better explaination. PS I think this is the same part (Ben) is looking for? (the question right below My last Question).

1 Answer

Hello Theo! Thank you. The agitator coupling WH49X10042 is what the transmission shaft goes into when inserted through the tub. Thanks.

I am looking for the part # of the bearing in the bottom of the tub assembly (pt # AP2047609). I bought the spanner wrenches and the seal and tub bearing (WH2X1197) to change this bearing on order #2357066 thinking I would get this bearing. I checked with GE and they don't even list this bearing PT #. I guess it comes with the tub assembly but seems like it should be available as an Item? It has tabs to bolt it in place. It is visable looking in the bottom of the washer. Thanks

1 Answer

Hello Theo! The part I believe you are speaking of with the tabs is the washer tub seal, part number WH02X10383. Is this the part you are needing? Thanks!

Ben, It sounds like you're describing the agitator coupling WH49X10042 . This component slips onto the agitator shaft of the transmission, and is bolted down, then the agitator is slipped onto the coupler and "snapped" down and locks into place. Thanks and Good Luck
