Don January 08, 2015 for Model Number GSS20GEW The fridge sat powered up with the water shutoff for 6 weeks and now it make motor growl and I get water on the door but no water to the ice make. I have tried the reset and I have shut off the power for a day to see if the line was frozen and nothing has changed is the water valve defective? Thanks
1 Answer Hello Don. Make sure the freezer is between 0° and 5°. You need to check and see if there is power going to the water valve when the icemaker cycles. If so, replace the water valve on the unit. If not, or the icemaker does not cycle, you will need to replace the icemaker on the unit. Also, check and make sure the fill tube on the unit is not frozen and clogged. If so, replace the water valve and thaw out the fill tube. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. I checked on the fill tube at the back of the refrigerator and it was frozen and blocked where it enters the refrigerator. Pulled line out and defrosted it, put it back in and it froze again. I pulled line out again defrosted it and placed it in a bucket to see how much water was being dispensed since it appeared it was just dripping out and thus freezing. Only small amount of water was released into bucket over a 24 hour period (about 1-2 ounces. Is the problem most likely the valve (Part Number:AP3706447).

Paul February 20, 2013 for Model Number GSS25JEPE BB The water dispenser on my side-by-side refrigerator stopped working abruptly (no gradual drop-off in flow). Light comes on when water dispenser lever is pushed, but there is no humming sound. Ice maker and ice dispenser are working properly. Do I have a faulty valve? Incidentally, I tried to check the water filter but couldn't locate one -- does this machine have a filter? The owner's manual covers several models and I can't find the answer.
