The Drain Pump and Motor is an original LG (OEM) replacement part for LG made washing machines that is responsible for removing water from the washer at the end of the wash cycle. The pump forces water out through the drain hose so that clothing comes out free of excess water, making the drying process faster.

Symptoms of a failing Drain Pump Motor include:

  • Water not draining out of the washing machine
  • Noisy or unusual sounds coming from the pump area during the drain cycle
  • The washing machine stopping mid-cycle

Causes of a bad Drain Pump Motor can range from obstructions in the pump or hose, which can strain or damage the motor, to wear and tear from regular use leading to motor failure. Electrical issues can also affect the motor's performance, preventing it from operating correctly.

This OEM LG part can also be used on Kenmore/Sears appliances.

Hello Neal. Yes, just remove the bolts securing the pump to the unit. The videos are for reference, but may not be model specific. So some models are a little different.

Chloe for Model Number LG Tromm WM3677HW

Thank you so much for the very helpful video on replacing the drain pump! I found it very easy to follow and my pump replacement (which arrived quickly - thank you!) went off without a hitch...or so I thought. I replaced the pump because the water wasn't properly draining during the dry cycle and clothes were sopping wet after 2 hrs of drying - more so then they were at the end of the wash/spin cycle. The new pump seems to be working, but now the water will not stop going into the drum during the wash cycle. I finally stopped it after the drum was half way full! It seems like the pump replacement is unrelated to water levels and the automatic shut off. Any ideas? Thank you very much! Chloe

Hello Chloe. Based on the information you provided, the water valve is bad or the pressure hose has come off. Check the hose first. If it is good, then replace the valve that is not turning off.

Ray, You will want to access the drain pump and hoses that lead from the bottom of the tub to the drain pump and make sure that there is nothing that is clogging them. If the unit always drains but just will not go into the spin then the issue may be with the pressure switch resetting. This could be caused by a clog in the pressure hose. It is doubtful that the drain pump is faulty as the unit works sometimes but not others.

Craig, The small tube is the pressure tube for the unit and water may not come out of it. You will want to replace the drain motor which is what would be faulty on the pump assembly.

Jorge, You will want to check to make sure that there is power coming into the unit. Check for 120 vac at the main control board. If there is not 120 vac then there may be a line filter on your unit that you will need to check to make sure that there is power going into it and coming out of it. If the power goes into but not out of it then it is faulty and would need to be replaced.
