The Hi Limit Thermal Fuse is an OEM part for LG dryers. This fuse is a safety device that protects the dryer from overheating by cutting off power to the heating element if the dryer’s temperature exceeds a safe limit. It ensures that the dryer operates within safe temperature ranges, preventing potential fire hazards.

Replace the hi limit thermal fuse if it becomes faulty due to wear and tear, a buildup of lint, or exposure to high temperatures over time. A malfunctioning fuse can compromise the dryer’s ability to regulate heat properly.

Symptoms of a bad hi limit thermal fuse include:

  • The dryer not heating
  • The dryer shutting off unexpectedly during a cycle
  • No response from the dryer when attempting to start a cycle
  • Extended drying times due to lack of heat

This OEM LG part is also compatible with Sears/Kenmore models.

Ron, With the unit shutting down completely it would be recommended to check to make sure that the wiring connections are good and if they are then this will be a faulty control board.

Chaz for Model Number DLG2702V

I needed to reset the Thermostat for a second time in about 3 months. I did it but found the button had very little rebound to it. I ran the dryer to see test that it was getting heat and it was. I shut if off, returned the dryer to its regular position and then restarted the machine. It immediately "zapped" lost all power and will now not come on. I did get a small odor of "a short". Is it just a bad thermostat and protecting itself or something more? Thanks!

Chaz, With the thermostat tripping then this will most likely be the cause for this issue.

Sonia, First, see if you can manually spin the drum by hand easily. There is a thermal cutoff in the unit that shuts it down usually located close to the exhaust exit by the heater. Also, check that 240 vac is present at your power supply located in the rear under a cover plate.

Hello Sawgrass, I'm sorry but moisture inside the dryer is still an indication of an air flow issue. You should make sure there is no dryer sheet or similar debris in the blower wheel and if not, there will be an issue somewhere between the back of the dryer and where the ducting terminates outside. Make sure there is no flexible ducting, (the manufacturers all recommend rigid ducting).

Jason for Model Number BFLH70L,BFLH85L

The over heat protector thermostat replacement listed on a website used at a motor repair shop showed the replacement thermostat closes as the temperature rises. This is for the ceiling heater motor. They said it should open the circuit as the temperature rises . The part # is listed 5S3402064 and is listed as an over heat protector screw on my owner's manual. Who is right on this? The motor was overheated as the heater was left on overheating the room for several hours. The parts dept. said that both the motor and thermostat did not work.

1 Answer

Jason, This hi limit thermostat will open with higher temperatures and will close back when it is cooled down.
