Michael for Model Number WM2050CW

Hi— I have an LG washing machine WM2050CW that gets no power, even after the reset procedure. The noise filter appears to be allowing 120v across, so I think that’s ok. I can’t get any ohms across the main control board fuse though, which of course leads me to believe it’s cooked. I don’t, however, want to buy a new control board and just fry it. Is there any other troubleshooting I can do before installing the board? Drum spins freely, but that’s all I’ve looked at. The washer quit mid-cycle and someone nearby reported a possible “burning plastic” smell when it quit. Very small load.

Michael, the wires can be tested for any grounded out wire to identify if excessive current could be damaging the control EBR38163349. The motor windings can be tested for resistance and should measure between 8KO to 12KO in each winding. If there is not a grounded or shorted wire, and the motor tests within tolerance, then there should not be any components that are causing excessive current flow through the main control.

I am tuning up my old LG frontload to sell. It was working normally when I took it out of service and replaced it with a new one. My problem is a noise I can't eliminate or find the source of. It sounds like drumming your fingers on a box. The noise comes from the outer tub while the washer is turning slowly during the wash cycles. When it spins fast, no noise. I'm sure the drum noise is coming from someplace else and is just being amplified by the outer drum. It washes all cycles just fine and just started doing this a few years ago. For the rebuild I have replaced: both pumps, drum spider/shaft, bearings, seal, front tub boot. The noise did not change. Since it was coming from the outer tub, I replaced the stator and rotor position sensor since they are attached to it. Still no change. Nothing is loose and the tub springs and shocks are all fine. The only thing I was wondering about was the control board. Would it make the washer make that type of noise just at slow speed? Also what is the function of the noise filter. These are about the only 2 things I haven't replaced.

1 Answer

Mike, The noise filter is to clean up any line noise that comes in through the power supply lines. This issue could be caused by a control board but would be a long shot for this issue. Check the pump to make sure that there is nothing clogged in the pump.

Tristan, This issue would just be a fault in the board itself and will need to replace the main board.

Pvillemd for Model Number WM2277HW

Hello, I'm getting the LE code on our LG WM2277HW washer. I put the machine into service mode and ran the first spin test. The display shows 0 rpm. I've tested the ohms between the three terminal connections at the motor and all read 7.5ohms. Also, I've tested the other side of the terminals coming from the control board and they are all around 0 volts (AC) while the machine is running in test spin mode indicating (I think) that the main board is bad? I have not replaced the motor position sensor yet, but since there is no voltage coming from the board, my guess is to replace the board first, correct? I've already removed the board and it is stamped 6871EC1087C on one sticker and the actual board has 6870EC9113A-1 printed on it. Can you let me know if you agree with my diagnosis, and if you think it's the control board as well, give me the compatible boards available? Thanks!

PvilleMD, For this issue you would want to check the motor and the RPS sensor. If you look on the tech sheet you will want to do the testing for the LE error code. This will guide you to which part has failed.

The fuse on the control board (6871ER1003C) is burned out. LG covered the board with a, guessing, 1/8" silicone layer that covers the entire board that the connectors are on - INCLUDING the fuse, which is ridiculous! Do you know what size fuse that is, i.e. 15, 20, 30 amp? I carefully cut away the silicone type material from around the fuse, the board simply says "fuse". The fuse is soldered on each end to two hard wire leads coming out of the board. Rather than jump over the fuse with a wire, i.e. no more fuse, which will work but not a great idea long term, I'd rather solder on a new fuse where I remove the old burned out fuse from. If I'm unable to take off the bad fuse I'll just wire a new fuse on around it. I need to know the size of that fuse I'm replacing. I'm not a business, just a fairly smart guy that can do this myself if I know the fuse specs.

1 Answer

Walter, We don't have access to the information or rating of the fuse on your control board. The manufacturer doesn't publish that type of information in the service information we have access to. If you're going to go the replacement route, you're best bet would be to remove the fuse and visit your local electrical supply dealer. Most in line fuses have the voltage and amperage ratings stamped on the metal end cap. Good Luck

Ron, While these 2 parts look the same one will not replace the other as there may be a feature issue between the 2 of them that make them non compatible.
