The Fan Motor is an OEM part for LG refrigerators. It is essential for circulating air throughout the refrigerator and freezer compartments to ensure a consistent and even temperature. This air circulation is crucial for proper food preservation and to prevent warm spots or frost buildup, which can occur when air does not circulate properly.

Symptoms of a bad Fan Motor include:

  • The refrigerator making unusual noises such as humming or buzzing, which may indicate the motor is struggling.
  • Poor cooling performance, with parts of the refrigerator warmer than usual.
  • The refrigerator cycling on and off more frequently, which can be a sign of the motor overheating.

Causes of a bad fan motor can include wear and tear from continuous use, accumulation of dust or debris in the fan, or electrical issues such as faulty wiring or a burned-out motor.

This OEM LG part is also compatible with Sears/Kenmore models.

For Lg Fan Motor (Part Number: OEM17850252)

Beth for Model Number LMXC23796D/00

Fridge sounds like it is labored then showed an E FF error. We googled and unplugged it, used a hair dryer in the vent area (as the video showed), plugged it back in and the error code came back after a time. Shut it down for 1 hour, plugged it in again and it did fine for about 2 hours, laboring noise but the error code came back. Everything is still cold. I am thinking it is the freezer fan but want to confirm and find out what product number I need to order. Thank you!

Kenmore, in regards to the freezer being blocked up with ice, this could be a failure with the defrost sensor fuse assembly 6615JB2005R or the defrost heater MEE62105217. The temperature in the refrigerator section would most likely be caused by a failing thermistor 6500JB2001B. The thermistor should measure 30KO at 32°F, and 24.1KO at 41°F. The defrost heater should measure between 34-42O and the sensor should measure more than 22KO while the fuse of the assembly should have continuity.

Lee, this fan motor would not be tested for resistance. When it is plugged into the refrigerator and the door switch is in the closed position, it would be tested from the black wire (with the red probe of a meter) to the red wire (with the black probe of a meter) for 8 to 12 VDC. If there is between 8 to 12 VDC the fan should be rotating and the red meter probe would then be moved to the purple wire and it should measure between 1 to 4.9 VDC. If the fan motor is receiving between 8 to 12 VDC but not sending between 1 to 4.9 VDC out, the fan motor is bad. If the fan motor is not receiving 8 to 12 VDC, the temperature sensor would need to be tested and the main control would need to be tested.

Steven, This error would be a issue with the refrigerator fan and you will want to check to make sure that the fan is getting 12 vdc to it. If there is not a 12vdc then the control board would be the issue and if there is proper power then the fan would be the issue.
