Moutaz for Model Number RFG297AARS/XAA

Six months ago my Freezer suddenly was frosted all over, so I replaced the control boards, all the Freezer sensors, the evaporator fans, cleaned the condenser coil, however the freezer will freeze but not much Ice cream always runny. The only thing I have not changed is the Defrost Heater. I measured the ohm it was 52.4 the spec say it should be 55.2 is that the cause? By the way the system is full of Freon and no leaks. I will greatly appreciate your help.

Hello Moutaz, at this point suggest you contact an appliance servicer to check the sealed system. The defrost heater is within specs.

my 6 year old samsung refrigerator only goes down to 50 in fridge but freezer is at 0 degrees. so far have changed the fan motor both temp sensors inside the fridge compartment and still had problem then I did not disconnect electrically but did pull the damper out leaving its wiring connected this did help as the pantry area can go down tot 45. I measured the thermostat resistance and at room temp it had continuity but according to info from one of your web sites it should be open and only continuity when too cold so does this mean I should change the thermostat??? also get water in pantry area

1 Answer

Bill with water in the pantry area it tells me you have a clogged defrost drain. The drain may also be causing the cooling issue as it builds up ice on the evaporator. remove the evaporator cover in the back of the fridge and clear the drain. Otherwise, you could have a defrost issue as well, check your heater, sensors, and control board.

Hello Joe, the pantry temperature sensor DA32-00006R is located inside the pantry drawer rear mounted damper housing. On our website for this part there is a repair video showing how to access it.

Steve, It would be recommended to remove the rear wall of the freezer and check the frost pattern on the evaporator coils. If the coils are impacted with ice then this would be a defrost issue in which you will want to test the defrost sensor, defrost bimetal and defrost heater. If there is very little frost on the coils then this would most likely be an issue with the sealed system in which you would need service for this. There should be a even frost pattern from top to bottom.

Dennis, With the coils icing up then you will want to test the defrost sensor and the bimetal for the defrost. Also check the heater. The heater and bimetal will have continuity when on the coil, the heater should have continuity and the sensor should read a resistance of 5K ohms at room temp. If all these check ok then this will be a main control board issue in which it is not sending the refrigerator section in to defrost.

Hello Cheryl. You will need to clean out the drain again and this time, remove the duck bill valve in the compressor compartment and clean it out as well. It is clogged and allowing the water to back up in the unit. Thanks.

Phil, The compressor is running if the temp is 30 degrees but you would want to access the evaporator coil in the freezer to make sure that the evaporator coil is not impacted with ice like it would be a defrost issue or maybe the coils have almost no frost on it at all. If there is very little to no frost then this would be a sealed system issue in which you will need service.

Rick T for Model Number RF266ABBP/XAA

My freezer is fine but the fridge isn't cooling well. Diagnostics indicated the fan so I pulled the inside back off, for about the 6th or more time since I've owned it to check if the frost had built up and stopped the fan. However I didn't think this would be the problem because less than month earlier I had already defrosted and cleaned it, also this time the fan wasn't making any noise from hitting the ice. I pulled it apart and indeed found ice formed up around the fan, the rest of the area was fine. I figured my fan was probably shot so after letting it thaw I tested the fan with a power supply and it worked fine. It also spins easily by hand so the bearings appear to be nice and smooth with no drag. Any ideas? Thanks
