The Drive Belt is an OEM part for Whirlpool front load washing machines. It transmits power from the wash motor to rotate the tub assembly, tumbling clothes during cycles. The belt is designed with deep grooves to securely grip the motor and tub pulleys. It measures 48.22” long uninstalled and will stretch to 51.53” when installed.

Causes of a bad Drive Belt can include cracks developing from repeated flexing during operation or stretching over many years. Debris trapped in the belt path can also wear down the belt prematurely.

Symptoms of a bad belt include:

  • The washing tub failing to spin or agitate clothes
  • Abnormally loud squealing noises from inside the machine
  • The belt slipping off pulleys during cycles

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, and select Kenmore front load washers.

For Whirlpool Drive Belt (Part Number: OEM18062250)

Phil for Model Number GHW9100LW1

I replaced the belt on this washer around 8 months ago. It started spinning slow so I opened the back and saw the belt completely off both the tub and motor pulleys. I replaced the belt again and noticed that when it is spun by hand, it tracks toward the tub. How do I keep it tracking straight. I looked at both pulleys and the motor mounts all SEEM to be ok. I did notice that the motor pulley and the belt both have ridges and the tub pulley is flat. Tub pulley was replaced about 8 months ago as well.

Phill, A couple of things you still want to check. Make sure the washer is not being overloaded, The spin basket pulley can "flex" and throw the belt off. Make sure you have the pulley nut WPW10283361 as tight as possible(you may want to add a dab of red "Loc Tite" to the threads. You need to remove the motor and check the bolt, isolators, and tub mounts for distortion, and excessive wear, allowing the motor to sit at an angle, and or "wobble" Thanks

Bob, Your first check should be at the drain pump filter/cap 8181735 and the drain pump 280187 and hoses for clogs. you'll need to remove the lower access panel and have a few towels or shallow pans to collect the water. Thanks

Hello Donna. No, there are no special tools needed, but the belt WPW10388414 is very tight. Start the belt on the motor pulley and roll it onto the large pulley. Once you start rolling it onto the large pulley, make sure you hold the belt against the pulley and use both hands to walk the pulley around.

Roy M. for Model Number 11042822202

I have a Kennmore HE3 front-loading washer. About three weeks ago, the belt slipped off. I retightened the nut holding the pulley on and put the belt back on. It worked until today. (By the way, with a household of 10 and their friends, we do a lot of laundry!) The belt had slipped off, gone behind the pulley and broke. I took the nut and pulley off. The bolt where the nut goes seems solid (no play, etc.) The pulley has play about 1/2 inch left and right without the nut on. I know I need a new belt, but do I need a pulley too? I don't know what the hole in a new pulley is supposed to look like. I've seen no grease/oil leakage anywhere either, just the black residue from the old belt. Can I put a washer between the nut and pulley to keep it tight? Thank you very much!

Hello Roy. Based on the information you provided, it sounds like the outer tub assembly W10772617 is bad and will need to be replaced in the unit. Hope this helps.

Coty, Acouple of things to check, Make sure the pin pulley bolt is good and tight and the pulley doesn't "wobble" . Also check the motor mount bolts, that attach the motor to the tub assembly are also properlt torqued/ tightened. Good Luck and Thanks

Hello Mike. The control is unable to properly detect motor speed and the machine will shut down. If a failure occurs during high-speed spin, the door will be unlocked after three minutes. 1. Verify the shipping system including shipping bolts, spacers and cables are removed. 2. Unplug washer or disconnect power. 3. Check wire harness connections between the drive motor and the Motor Control Unit (MCU), and between the MCU and the Central Control Unit (CCU). 4. Plug in washer or reconnect power. 5. Check the MCU by looking for operations of the drive motor. 6. Check the drive motor for powered rotations. If there is power to the motor and the motor does not run, you will need to replace the motor WP8182793. Hope this helps.

Michel, You'll need to move the washer away from the wall, and unplug the power cord. The drive motor/belt can be removed once the back panel has been removed. Twelve screws secure the back panel to the washer. Remove the 12 screws and remove the back panel. Remove the Drive Belt. Removing the lower cabinet cross brace is helpful as well, but is not necessary. The belt will need to be "rolled" onto the tub pulley. It's best to install the belt on the motor pulley, and hold it in place. slip the belt onto the tub pulley at the 7 o'clock position (approximately) and work the belt on as far as possible. Then grasp the pulley and turn it clockwise, slowly, and the belt will "walk" it's way on. After the belt is on, rotate the tub a few times(3 or 4 rotations) to insure the belt is centerred. Reverse the procedure and test the washer for a spin cycle. The belt will look to be too short, and it should be difficult to install it on the tub pulley, but this is normal. Thanks and Good Luck

Hello James. You will need to start the belt on the motor pulley first, then roll it around the big pulley on the back of the tub. These are very tight to install. Hope this helps.
