For Whirlpool Refrigerator Electronic Control Board (Part Number: OEM18067209)

Mike for Model Number Whirlpool GB2FHDXWS04

My Whirlpool GB2FHDXWS04 has a bad jazz board (part number 12784415) that needs replacement (verified by a technician). The refrigerator temperature control module looks exactly like the top half of the exploded parts diagram shown on your web page for this part. I would like to order and replace this part myself, but I have 2 critical questions...(1) how do you pull down the temperature control/light module without breaking it? I've successfully removed the light cover (simple enough), but I don't see any screws...when I begin to pull the temperature module downward, there is a lot of resistance and I'm afraid of breaking one or more of the mounting tabs if I try to force it...what's the trick for correctly removing and reinstalling the temp control/light module so that I can access the jazz board? (2) does this replacement jazz board need any 'field programming' prior to use in the Whirlpool GB2FHDXWS04, or can it be plugged in and used as it comes out of the box? Thanks in advance for your help.

Mike, To answer your first question, when you look at the back part of the control you will see 2 slots. Push a flat blade screwdriver into the slots and this will release and drop down the panel. Very easy replacement. There will be programming needed once you get the board installed. If you remove the kickplate on the unit, under the right side there will be a tech sheet. The tech sheet will have programming instructions on it.

Hello Daniel, 14 is the software version, not the program code, (which you said was 12 on the nits' I.D. tag). If this is the only problem noted, there is most likely no problem with the unit. The unit should be allowed to run for 24 hours and assessed at that time for normal operation.

Hello George. 1. Open the Fresh Food door and hold the Fresh Food door light switch closed while pushing the Freezer Temperature Down Key pad 3 times consecutively. Note: The 3 Keystrokes must be done consecutively and within 10 seconds. 2. Release the Fresh Food door light switch. 3. The control will display PE to confirm entry into the programming mode. Freezer Refrigerator P E 4. Entry is confirmed by pressing the Freezer Down key once more. Note: All control functions will be turned off (Compressor, Defrost, Evaporator Fan, the damper will remain in its current position) 5. The control will display the current Program Code. This value should be validated with the Program Code printed on the unit serial plate. 2 Freezer Refrigerator 5 Note: If the Program Code is correct, the Programming Mode is exited by closing the Refrigerator door(s). 6. To set the desired Program Code number press the Freezer and Refrigerator UP keys. The corresponding digit will be advanced with each key press. 7. Once the desired Program Code is displayed, press the Freezer DOWN Key until the Program Code begins flashing indicating it has been saved. Note: If you attempt to enter an invalid Program Code the control will not save the new code, but will flash the old code and this will be displayed. (The unit will NOT run with a Program Code of 00). 8. Once the Program Code has been saved the Programming Mode is exited by closing the Refrigerator door(s). If the new code is incorrect this process should be repeated after closing the Refrigerator door(s).

David, The code is located on the refrigerator model/serial tag. If you check under the front of the unit on the right hand side there is a tech sheet that will tell you how to program the control.

Glide for Model Number EB9SHKXVQ03

I have a Whirlpool refrigerator freezer on bottom and refrigerator on top. The evaporator coil is freezing up causing the refrigerator compartment to warm up. I replaced the thermostat and it did not solve the problem. The evap coil is still freezing up. I suspect the unit is not defrosting due to a faulty defrost timer. Can you help me locate the defrost timer on this model. It is typically in the refrigerator compartment up a the top near the electronic control board. However, the timer is not located here or under the lower unit. Can you provide some help as to the location? Thanks

Glide, The unit does not have a defrost timer in it but incorporates a adaptive defrost control. The defrost control is part of the control board in the refrigerator compartment and is part number WPW10503278.

Branden, If you did not find a defrost issue in the freezer compartment, the more likely issue is the "auto damper" WPW10196393 located in the back wall of the refrigerator compartment. If or when the thermistor reaches the temp. cut in temperature it transmits the data to the control board and the control board supplies the circuit and power to open the door in the damper to allow cold air to enter. If the switch motor or door get stuck, there's no air to the refrigerator compartment and the compartment warms up. Of course you need to do the basic checks first, doors close and seal, compartment light goes out when the door is closed, and the shelves and vents are not blocked or overloaded.
