Hello Mike. If the noise is coming from the temp control, then you will need to replace the temp control on the unit. You need to make sure it is not coming from the control board on the unit. If it is , then the board is bad.

Two summers ago, my fridge and freezer stopped working. Fan and compressor would not turn on unless I tapped the temperature controls. I replaced the thermostat and it worked until last summer. Replaced the thermostat again and now one year later I have the same issue - I have to tap on controls for compressor and fan to turn on. During the summers months, I have kids and wife at home that constantly open and close the fridge and freezer. It is possible that the defrost control board is the actual problem and not the thermostat? Or something else?

Hello Matt. It is possible that it is a wiring connection. If the cold control keeps shorting out, you will need to check the wiring and make sure it is good on the unit.

Hello Tim, This can be caused by the freezer fan not running 4389144, a defrost issue WPW10366605, WP2192096, a frost accumulation in the air diffuser, a bad air diffuser WPW10151374, or the air return at the bottom between the freezer and fresh food compartments can be blocked.

Michael, You'd want to check a couple of components, The ADC Board WPW10366605 This controls the power to both the compressor and the defrost system, if the board is faulty or shorted out, etc. Nothing would operate. The next check would be at the Temperature Control WP2198202 No "closed" circuit across the terminals means no voltage to the compressor. The interior lights working indicates you have voltage to the refrigerator, but make sure the voltage is in range 108 to 132 VAC, at the outlet and power cord.

My side by side 3 year old refer. has been getting ice build up every 2 weeks and I have to defrost the frezzer to get ice build up off fan so it works, the fan to work. lately the refer side is not getting very cold. If fact seems like warm air is blowing in. I unpluged and defrosted the entire unit for 3 days. All ice gone. Pluged back in, Frezzer works fine,(Im sure ice will build up again) but refer side is just not old like it should be? Paid a guy to come out and look and he seemed like an idiot. but said the defroster timer is bad? Can find that part. What say you. Just not making sense Mike

1 Answer

Mike, Normally when getting excessive frost build up on the evaporator will be considered a defrost issue. To eliminate components you would want to test the defrost heater for continuity. If there is continuity it is good. Test the defrost bimetal for continuity and if there is continuity then it is good. This would leave the defrost control board as the issue with the unit. The part number for the defrost control board is part number WPW10366605 and is located in the control box of the refrigerator section.

Rod, With the defrost system not working you will want to test the defrost thermostat and defrost heater for continuity. If one of the parts does not have continuity then replace the part.
