Hello Linda. To replace the bulb, you will need to 1. Disconnect power to the range. 2. Open oven door and locate oven light. 3. Remove the lens cover to gain access to bulb. 4. Carefully remove the old bulb by pulling straight out of ceramic base. 5. Push new bulb prongs straight into small holes of ceramic base. 6. Replace bulb cover by snapping into place. 7. Reconnect power to range and reset clock. As for the cooktop, you will need to 1. Disconnect the appliance from power source before servicing. 2. Remove two (2) screws securing glass top to frame. The screws are located in the front left and right corners with the door open. 3. Grasp front edge of cooktop and slide out slightly. With the top moved forward disconnect the wiring harness. 4. Lift the top off the unit and lay aside securely. 5. Reverse the procedure to reinstall.

Chip Randall for Model Number MER5780BAW

I ordered a 6" burner # 12002141 from another company and was sent a replacement w10823711. The replacement looks very much the same but does not operate correctly. Your site says part number whirlpool ap4012913 is the replacement. The picture of this part on your site looks exactly like my bad one. Your part #ap6030329 looks exactly like the replacement one they sent me. I would like to order your ap4012913. Will I get that exact part or a replacement?

1 Answer

Chip, Yes the correct part for your unit will be W10823704 for the 6" element. This element should look as the one in the picture on our website does.

A while ago I replaced the 6" element. The new one came on okay but the problem was that it stayed always on high. You could turn the switch to low but nothing changed. Also, when you turn this eye off, the 'hot surface' light goes off as well, when it should stay on for a while. Since the element was replaced I decided that it might be a faulty switch. I ordered it last week and installed it yesterday, but the problem remains the same. So I assume the switch was okay and the burner was faulty? What do you suggest? Try another burner? Can I return the switch?

1 Answer

Eric, The element will be the most likely cause for the unit to stay on high and you will want to make sure that you have installed all the wiring properly. If the it is wired properly then the element would be the issue.
