Michael L for Model Number jer8850aab

I ordered a 6" element for my Jenn Air electric range. The instructions that came with it say to compare my old element limiter with the new one, and change the position of the wires on the terminals based on the new diagram, as the terminals ie. 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B are in different locations. Acutually 1A is a fixed jumper, so that location did not change. I spliced in the extra lenghts of wires that came with the kit, and installed the terminals per the new diagram. When I turned on my knob switch, the light came on but the element does not heat up at all. Any suggestions?

Michael, You may have wired the element assembly wrong. Regardless of the instruction sheet, you need to verify the terminal locations on the new element limiter as compared to the original. and attach the corresponding wire to the corresponding terminal, ie, the 1B terminal should have the red wire, common to all the 1B terminls on all the elements, 2B should have the yellow wire that attaches to the hot surface indicator light. The 1A terminal has the metal jumper, and the 2A terminal should have the yellow wire from the H1 terminal of the infinite switch attached to it,the remaining yellow wire from the H2 terminal of the infinite switch will attach to the terminal on the side of the element housing. If you check and you're sure the replacement element is wired in this configuration, then you'll need to check for 220-240 VAC across the yellow wires (side of element and 2B) with the switch on, to determine if the infinite switch is at fault.

Hi. The element part # W10823704. The double red wires connect to the element 1b terminal. One of them comes from the 1b terminal on the left front elemt. and the other one is from the 1b terminal of the rt rear element. The red wire from the hot surface indicator lights connect to the element 2b terminal. From the 12 pin disconnect plug on the surface burner wiring harness the # 1 wire connects to the element terminal. The # 3 red wire both connect to the sensor left open on the side of the element sensor "block". Thank You.
