Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Oven Thermal Fuse (Part Number: OEM18028515)

1 Answer

Mike, the most likely cause of failure would be the ignitor W11176454. This can be verified by testing the safety valve WP98014893 for 3.2 to 3.6 VAC during a bake cycle. If the voltage reaching the safety valve is not in this range, the ignitor has weakened and would need to be replaced. If the voltage is in this range, the safety valve has failed if the bake burner jets are clear of debris/blockages.

Rich, If the fuse is in heat shrink where the connectors are then just cut the heat shrink out and you can use 2 pairs of needle nose pliers and pull the connectors apart.

Anna M for Model Number GBD307PRS01

Help please. Was broiling in top oven. Finished. Shut off oven. Left. Came back and oven dead. Tried to reset breaker. Nothing. No lights no nothing. Checked power to oven, 240 ok. No burn marks anywhere on board. Top oven thermal fuse in back fine. I can't attach picture but my oven thermal fuse attached to control board looks like your AP6009502 only the harness is crimped so I can't pull it out without cutting it. I don't have the two females Like the one you show that is supposed to be for my model. I can't find my tech sheet for my model. Funny. It's no longer available which I find odd. Would a thermal fuse be a reason for it being completely dead? Will test transformer once multimeter arrives. But did my model use two different fuses?

1 Answer

Anna, If the thermal fuse has continuity then it is good and if not then the issue will most likely be the either the board or the transformer.

Hello Mark. On your model you need to check the control transformer WP9760587 in the unit. If bad, the panel will not work. The fuse should have a clip to release it if needed. You will have to pull to release it.

Hello Connie, This can be a thermal limiter if the model has one or it can be a lost connection at the terminal block/junction box. It could also be a breaker issue. You should verify voltage to the unit and locate the tech sheet as a guide in your troubleshooting. This is as specific as we can get without the model number from the units' I.D. tag.

Paul, You do have the correct part number WP4456654 for a Kitchen Aid labeled wall oven. The fuses are rated and constructed of the same material, only the connectors are different. The WP4451042 fuse is for the Whirlpool labeled wall ovens, and is the one you need based on the model number you supplied. You also want to position the new fuse up as close to the grille panel so it is in the air flow from the cooling fan.
