The Thermal Fuse is an OEM part for Whirlpool ovens. It is designed to monitor the oven's temperature and automatically cut off power to the heating elements if the temperature exceeds a certain threshold. It acts as a failsafe to prevent excessive heat buildup and potential damage to the oven or surrounding areas.

Causes of a faulty oven thermal fuse can include a power surge, overheating, or electrical component failure. These factors can result in the thermal fuse blowing; interrupting the power supply to the heating elements and preventing further operation of the oven.

Symptoms of a bad oven thermal fuse may include:

  • Oven not heating up at all
  • Error codes or error messages displayed on the oven's control panel
  • Oven appears to be powered off

This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

Richard, The most likely cause for the oven to not work would be a bad control board.

Yel Nuheg for Model Number WOS51EC0AS02

Issue: If the oven is set to 200 degrees, the screen displays the current temperature (as “lo”) and the words, “preheating”. The display correctly shows the temperature rising (although at a rate that is much slower than most ovens). When the desired temperature is reached a tone is voiced, the oven display shows the temp (200°), and the display prompts the user to insert food in the oven. All good so far. However, if you press “Cancel”, change the temperature to 350°, and press “Start”, the oven display shows “177 degrees - Baking” and never changes. Although the oven does heat up there is no way to tell when, or if, it hits 350° because there is no change in the display and no auditory tone to indicate that the desired temperature was reached. This malfunction occurs even if different temperature settings are used. Any suggestions?

Yel N. You will want to check the oven sensor to make sure that the sensor has a resistance at room temp of 1090 ohms. You can also check at a higher reading by adding 2 ohms for every 1 degree of temperature rise. If this checks ok then the issue will most likely be in the control board that is faulty.

Deb, Being your range is an electric model, and you have an ERC (Electronic Range Control) You would want to recheck and re calibrate the control, if you have done that, the next option, and most likely problem would be the Oven Temp. Sensor WPW10181986 located in the oven cavity back wall. This device transmits the oven temperature to the ERC, Under certain conditions and usage factors, the sensor can loose the calibration and cause the oven to overheat. You also want to check for loose connections and corrosion in the wire harness connectors, and make sure the two sensor wires aren't pinched or chafed where the wires interact with the chassis and seams of the panels.

Jason, The model number provided XFE361ILVD is not coming up as being a valid model number. It does appear that we are referring to electric oven that is not working. With this being a electric model then when the unit is set to bake there should be 240 vac to the bake element. If there is not then you are losing one leg of power. Since the unit preheats then it sounds like the control board would be the issue.
