The Thermal Fuse is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool ovens. This safety device is designed to prevent the oven from overheating by cutting off electrical power if the internal temperature exceeds a safe level.

The thermal fuse can fail due to normal wear and tear, prolonged exposure to high temperatures, or electrical surges. Accumulation of grease and debris around the fuse can also cause it to malfunction.

Symptoms of a bad thermal fuse include:

  • The oven not heating up
  • The oven shutting off during use
  • No power to the oven
  • Error codes related to temperature control

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Linda J for Model Number Mer5550AAH

I accidentally hit the clean feature and then tried to cancel, which it didn't. My range door is locked and I had left a couple pans in it that I would like to use. I have only cleaned it once. I bake cookies and other things. Don't think I have ever broiled. I have my user's guide and tried everything they have said with no success. When I turn the timer on, it makes a grinding noise for about 10 seconds and then the panel shows a dr sign. I can get it back to showing the time which is accurate. Any ideas. the fuse looks easy to replace. The appliance people are quoting $200 to $300.

Linda, This issue would most likely be caused by a door lock assembly that has failed and would be part number WP74005575 that is needed.

Hello Jeff, This will most likely be a loose terminal on the terminal block WPW10245259 where the power cord connects to the unit. This normally requires the replacement of the cord and the terminal block. The only other thing it could be is the wall outlet behind the unit. If you have a three prong plug you will need TJMA-7673 and 5304512983. If you have a four prong plug, you will need TJMA-1212 and WX09X10035.

Roger, With having a good element then you will want to check the continuity of the thermal fuse. If there is no continuity then replace the fuse WP3196548. If the thermal fuse checks ok for continuity then the issue will be the control board.

Brantly, The most likely cause of the units oven not working would be either a bad thermostat or a bad selector switch. You can test from L1 to L2 on the thermostat to make sure that there is 240 vac getting to it. If there is not then trace back through the selector switch to see if there is power getting to it. If there is then the switch is bad. If there is 240 getting to the thermostat then the thermostat is faulty.
