The Thermal Fuse is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool ovens. This safety device is designed to prevent the oven from overheating by cutting off electrical power if the internal temperature exceeds a safe level.

The thermal fuse can fail due to normal wear and tear, prolonged exposure to high temperatures, or electrical surges. Accumulation of grease and debris around the fuse can also cause it to malfunction.

Symptoms of a bad thermal fuse include:

  • The oven not heating up
  • The oven shutting off during use
  • No power to the oven
  • Error codes related to temperature control

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

For Whirlpool Thermal Fuse (Part Number: OEM18023607)

Melissa for Model Number YKSEB900ESS0

We purchased this oven used and told it has no issues, however the oven does not seem to maintain temp. We turn it on and set temp. It heats up I think slowly however it is a bigger oven then our last so it might be normal for this model. It will beep saying it has reached temp. We put food into cook. We noticed food that took 45 minutes previously was taking much much longer. The display will still show the correct set temp for example 350, however if we shut of the oven and immediately turn it back on(without opening the door) and set it at 350 again the oven goes back into preheating and the temp will have dropped to 300. We have tested this multiple times, the oven seems to come up to temperature but then drops at least 50 degrees within 20 minutes. I just replaced the sensor(the one with the long probe) and nothing has changed. I have ordered the safety thermostat to try next. Any other suggestions?

Jason, with the power supply to the range turned off, it would be recommended that the oven control W11567368 is inspected for any burnt sections.

Hello Daniel, if the bake element had to be replaced it is likely when it failed it damaged the bake element relay in the main control board WPW10340323. In the bake cycle the control board cycles between the bake element and the broil element (240v) to reach the set temperature.

Bobbie for Model Number AER6303MFS1

My Whirlpool oven (1 1/2 years old) doesn't cook properly when baking. The oven heats up but the food never fully cooks. I'm not a professional, but I used my OHM meter to test both oven elements and they were OK. The temperature probe checked out OK as well. I saw on-line that there is also a safety thermostat on the back of the stove (which I didn't happen to check). Am I correct in thinking that this safety thermostat would totally shut down the oven if bad, or could that possibly be the problem, and cause the oven to not heat properly when baking? Any other suggestions? P.S. The broil function seems to work fine.

Bobbie, the broil element does connect to a thermal fuse WP3196548 that would stop the broil element from working, however, the bake element does not. As the bake element and oven sensor have tested good, the only part left that could cause this issue would be the main control W10904904.

Angie, the temperature probe W10833885 can be tested for resistance and it should measure between 1,000O to 1,200O. However, for the most accurate temperature measurements, a temperature probe would allow for the temperature differential to be accounted for. If the temperature measurement with a probe is reaching excessive temperatures, and the oven temperature sensor is reading properly, then the main control WPW10340308 would be the most likely failure.

Hello James, we would need the model number to advise on specific checks, but in general, if you have a multimeter, check that the stove is getting 120v,120v 240v at the terminal block, also check the wires leading up/away from the terminal block. Some brands may have a fuse but it would be on the rear near the top or behind the control panel rear panel.

Shelly, It looks like the broil relay is stuck closed in the control board and would need to be replaced. As long as the broil element has not shorted to ground and heating continuously that way. Unfortunately, it appears the control board is no longer available.

Jay, This issue would be caused by a internal error which would be caused by a faulty control board on the unit.
