Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Gearcase (Part Number: OEM18787182)

1 Answer

Dan, You will first want to pull the inner tub and see if there is anything that is caught between the tubs. If there is not then the gearcase would be the most likely cause for this issue.

Stan, The bearings in the gearcase are not a replaceable part. The gearcase itself will have to be replaced.

Keith, This issue would be a issue with the lid lock assembly not allowing the unit to go into the wash or spin cycle.

Jim, you were on target, the error codes you listed would indicate a problem in the drive system, and you'd normally check/replace the shift actuator. You should probably take the tech data sheet, run the recalibration program, and run the Tachometer Verification Mode, the control may not be sensing the basket move in spin. Then you'll need to check the "splutch and drive pulley to make sure they are installed properly, the cam is moving properly and the actuator is activating the shift lever properly. Then start checking for loose wire connections between the main machine control board and the shift actuator and motor.

Johnny H. for Model Number WTW5500XW0

I have a Whirlpool Cabrio model#WTW5500XW0; it's not making any strange noises or lacking in performance, however, there is an apparent dark greasy/oily film that is covering my floor and the inside of the washer housing at the bottom of the washer. It is not water. Whatever it is, is spraying from the underside somewhere (judging by the spray pattern) and it's everywhere, so trying to get a read on it isn't easy, and I'm having a difficulty locating the source. Understandably, this will eventually lead to a large failure before too long as moving items lacking lubrication will eventually break. Does anyone know what is causing this, and what all needs to be replaced?

Hello Johnny. Based on the information you provided, it sounds like the gearcase W11132267 is starting to fail and will need to be replaced.

Gary B for Model Number 11021302012

Just replaced the gear case in my 11021302012 Kenmore washer. It was still working but very noisy and I figured it was on its way out so I replaced with a "new" ? unit purchased online. I programmed it and put it in the test mode. Spin cycle is quiet as can be, but when it goes into wash, or agitate, it makes a horrendous noise, much worse than before. The noise follows the back and forth cycle of the agitator, i.e. noise, pause when reversing, noise, pause, noise. I assume I received a faulty transmission, as I can see no other reason for the noise in the agitator cycle? The washer doesn't agitate, but is sure agitating me..! Any other suggestion other than the suspect gear case? Thoughts?

1 Answer

Gary, The issue with this will likely not be with the gearcase, you will want to check the splutch assembly W10721967 which will be the most likely cause.

Wright for Model Number MVWC400XW3

My Maytag Centennial washer (MVWC400XW3) is very loud during the spin cycle. When the tub is empty I can easily rotate it by hand, but it sounds like the bearings are not moving smoothly & quietly. The washer is about 4 years old and runs about a load a day. Does this sound like a bearing problem? If so, can the bearings be replaced separately, or does the whole transmission need to be replaced as a unit? Would a manufacturer refurbished transmission be expected to work as well as a new one? Thanks for your help.

1 Answer

Hello Wright. Yes, the bearings are bad and the gearcase W11132267 will need to be replaced on the unit. We do not offer refurbished transmissions due to the fact that they fail.
