For Whirlpool User Interface (Platinum) (Part Number: OEM18038679)

1 Answer

Richard, With the dryer only running while holding the start button then this will be a faulty motor as the motor is not switching from the start winding to the run winding.

Hi, none of the buttons on my Whirlpool Duet's console light up, but the tub light works. Here's what I've done: Using the 8178071 L-69 Whirlpool Duet Gas and Electric Dryers job aid, I've entered the diagnostic mode. 88 appears in the Estimated Time Remaining display. Going through the keypad test, two steps fail: The Dryness Level test (no beeps and all lights remain lit) and the Wrinkle Shield test (same result). All other tests, including the Start test, succeed. The Sensing keypad test shows a software revision code of 02, and the Start keypad test shows a project ID code of 06. Where I need guidance is whether I need a new a) Console Electronics Board, b) Machine Control Electronics Board, or c) something else. The manual refers to console situations that don't really apply, e.g., none light up, a particular group lights up, etc. (while in diagnostic mode). They ALL light up in diagnostic mode, but the 2 tests that I mentioned above fail. Outside of diagnostic mode, nothing lights up. If a or b, could you please provide a part number so I can order? Let me know if you need additional information. Thank you, Chip

Chip, With the buttons not working, this would be a User interface issue and the user interface would need to be replaced.

William, You will want to check the belt switch to make sure that it is good. Also check the thermistor for a resistance of 10K ohms of resistance at room temp of 77 degrees. If this checks ok then the issue will most likely be caused by a faulty main control board.

Charles, Double check all wiring to make sure that the thermal fuse if connected, make sure that the belt switch is active and that the door switch is connected properly. This would be the most likely cause for this issue.

Michael, You will want to check to see if you are getting 240vac at the heater when it is not working. It is possible that either the relay on the control board is faulty or the centrifugal switch on the motor of the unit which would need replaced if that is the case.

With power to the dryer: push "control on" button and nothing happens no lights nothing.. Took a look at the control board disconnected P3 and P4 ribbon wire bundles (with the power cord plugged in) and re connected them with the rotary dial in the " timed dry" mode. All lights come on and I am able to use dryer for one cycle. To use again I must remove and replace p3 and or p4 bundles. Did manufacturers test #5 and most all reading within specs 1-3.5mohms. 4 were not wrinkle shield 7.2, dryness level 7.7, less time 7.4 and pause /cancel 7.23 . What's up? what needs to be replaced?

1 Answer

Paul, With the control board being good, the most likely cause for only the door open light to be on would either be the wiring between the main board and the user interface or a faulty user interface.

Tommy, Unfortunately, Yes, you will need to replace the User Interface Assembly W10838693 to receive the ribbon cables and harness to the machine control board. That is the only way to receive the cables.

Ed D for Model Number GEW9200LW0

Our whirlpool duet dryer has recently been acting up in the following manner: The cycle selection wheel and everything to the left of it works properly. The temperature select and the chime volume buttons no longer do anything with both being stuck on high heat and high volume. We had tried a power cycle on the unit and nothing changed. We also tried the diagnostic tests and all passed except for being able to use the above buttons. This to me sound like the console electronics board being bad but was not sure if this was a symptom of the machine control board going out.

Hello Ed. It sounds like the user interface will need to be replaced in the unit.
