Jeremy June 25, 2013 for Model Number WGD9300VU0 My gas dryer started making a terrible squealing sound last night. When I manually rotate the drum, it sounds like the pulley bearing may be the source. I noticed in your other responses that baby powder is recommended to lubricate. Do you think I will have success with the lubrication path, or should I just make the replacement? In either case, when I took off the front panel, the pulley arm was visible, but the bearing looked like a challenge to service from the front. Can you also help me with the best way to access the pulley? Thank you.
1 Answer Hello Jeremy. You do access and repace from the front of the unit. It is best to remove the drum when replacing and it is best to replace the pulley in the unit. Read More...
Jay March 31, 2013 for Model Number wed9400sw2 My Whirlpool dryer has a high pitch squeal. I can spray wd40 on the tension pulley, and this quiets it temporarily but it comes back. I think I need to replace the bearing, but not sure if part comes with bearing or just plastic tension wheel. What parts are needed to change out this pulley? Thank you
1 Answer Hello Jay, The only part you need is the idler pulley and the washers 279640. By the way, do not lubricate this part unless you use a dry lubricant. The manufacturer recommends baby powder or corn starch. Graphite is not recommended since if it were to get into the load, it will stain clothes. Read More...

Chris January 06, 2013 for Model Number GEW9250PW1 My idler pulley just popped off. The belt lost tension, the triangular plastic was broken and the pulley was lying on the bottom of the dryer. There was some black on the pulley. I was planning on replacing the pulley. Why do you think the pulley popped off. Do you think I need to worry about anything else? The brack and spring seem fine.
1 Answer Chris, You may want to consider the bracket assembly W10837240 instead, and a new belt 661570V . The black powder on the pulley could be due to the normal wear and tear on the belt. or the pulley bracket and belt being out of alignment. Read More...
Dave September 13, 2012 for Model Number kenmore elite 110 Is the idler pulley (AP3094197), supposed to rotate inside the plastic / steel?
1 Answer Hello Dave, The idler pulley should be the equivalent to one piece with its' bearing, (the center part that is metal). If the plastic spins on the metal, the pulley 279640 needs to be replaced. Read More...
Clay June 18, 2012 for Model Number 087572601 My dryer is running very loud. I have it apart and do not see anything broken or worn out. What should I be looking for?
1 Answer Hello Clay, Spin all of the rollers and make sure they spin freely. Make sure nothing is in the blower wheel. Make sure the belt has no obvious wear such as being frayed or thin areas where a pulley may have spun in it. Look around the outside of the drum for evidence of anything contacting the drum during operation. Spin the motor to check for a bad motor bearing which you can feel in the pulley when spinning it by hand. Otherwise, just look for anything that looks to be out of the ordinary, (discoloration, wear fragments on the main base, etc.). Read More...
Airlair3 April 10, 2012 Hi, I just wanted to follow up on my previous question. Would you recommend replacing the shafts along with the pully kit that you recommended in the previous answer to my first question. If so, could you forward me the shaft part numbers and possibly installation instructions? Thank you!
1 Answer Hello, If they have never been turned, I would not replace them. You can turn them to expose a fresh area to the wheel bearings and get the same life out of them again that you have gotten already. If you think about how the drum sets in between the wheels, they tend to wear only in one spot. When you flip them to expose an unworn area it has the same effect as installing new shafts. Unfortunately, without your model number I cannot provide valid part numbers. As long as they haven't been flipped, I really don't believe you need them. Read More...
Peter September 25, 2011 for Model Number 110-67841600 Kenmore dryer How do get to the idler pulley to replace it?
1 Answer Peter, You'll need to disconnect power to the dryer, remove the lower front access panel (two spring clips in the seam between the lower panel and upper front panel/door assembly) set the panel aside. You may want to lay a towel or pad on the front frame of the base. Push the idler arm towards the motor pulley and slip the belt off the motor. With a small flat blade screwdriver, pry the triangular plastic retainer clip off the end of the idler shaft, and remove the washers and pulley, clean the shaft with a wrag, lubricate the shaft with high speed oil( 3 in 1 oil works) and reverse the procedure. Thanks and Good Luck Read More...
