For Whirlpool Dishwasher Door Latch Handle Assembly (Part Number: OEM18046359)

1 Answer

Hi Keith. If you can access the top of the tub and remove the center bolt on the door striker, it will open the door. If not then you will need to replace the door latch assy. part # WPW10130695. The only way we know of is by using a screwdriver to release what is not broken off the striker. It is a heavy positive spring engagement that rotates and hooks the striker opening. Thank You.

Rich for Model Number MDB7600AWB

The handle has broken on my dishwasher and I'll be replacing it with a latch assembly soon. But recently the dishwasher fills, goes through the pre-wash cycle then stops running. All light go out. I have the instructions for running the field service test and manual function tests. When running the field service test I get a motor high current failure indication. You can hear the fill shut off, the wash cycle run through then the fail code appears. Manual function test for drain motor works fine. Manual function test for wash motor intermittently fails while other times works. Could an intermittent failure of the switches on the latch cause this or is there another underlying problem?

1 Answer

Hello Rich. No, based on the information you provided, it sounds like the wash motor 6-919922 is bad and will need to be replaced. Hope this helps.

Tony, It's will be easier on you if you repalce the complete assembly WPW10130695 installing the handle onto the switch assembly can be a bear for the non experienced repair person. Here's some help : "Inner Door Panel Removal of the Inner Door Panel will allow access to the Microprocessor Board, Door Switches, Detergent / Rinse Aid Dispenser, and Vent Assembly. Removal 1. Disconnect power to the machine. 2. Open the Dishwasher door. 3. Remove the 11 Torx™ screws along the sides and top of the Inner Door Panel. 4. Separate the Inner Door Panel from the Outer Door. 5. Disconnect wires from the Vent and Dispenser Wax Motors before pulling the Inner Door Panel away from the Dishwasher. Door Latch & Switch Holder Assembly Two Door Switches are used in the Latch Assembly. Both switches are normally CLOSED and will open only when engaged by the Door Latch mechanism. Each switch is in series with respect to L1 and neutral line operations. Failure of either or both switches will result in rendering the Dishwasher inoperative. NOTE: Door Switches require no field adjustment. Removal 1. Disconnect power to the machine. 2. Remove the Inner Door Panel. (See paragraph Inner Door Panel removal). 3. Lift Door Latch Assembly out." I think this will get you through the repair, Good Luck and Thanks

Ina for Model Number maytag quiet series 200: MDBTT50AWW

I need to replace the plastic hook that secures the door to the main body, (need that part #) but the light that indicates whether the high temp wash is selected or not no linger lights up. I assume its just a burnt out bulb or something because when you push the button it still toggles the feature on or off. The problem is that you never know whether its on until you've ran a cycle through & found that the dishes aren't clean. When I take the door apart to fix the latch, can I also just replace a bulb & if so what bulb do I need?

1 Answer

Hello Ina. You can not order just the light bulb, you will need to order the control panel 6-919841 to repair the problem. Hope this helps.

Hello Ina. Based on the information you provided, it sounds like the door strike WP99002644 is bad and will need to be replaced. If it is broke, make sure that the broke piece is not stuck inside the latch assembly. If so, and you can't remove it, you may need to replace the latch WPW10130695 as well. Hope this helps.

Karen for Model Number MDB7601AWW

Model #MDB7601AWW. I'm replacing the original latch assembly (includes handle). The 2 terminals/switches on the original latch were both white plastic, so I marked which side the white (neutral) and black (hot) wires hooked into, but the 2 terminals/switches on the new part W10130697 are made up of two plastic halves, one side white the other black. One side of the latch has a terminal with the white on the outside, the other side has the terminal with the black on the outside. Is that to indicate which wire hooks to each terminal? If so, the connections are the opposite of the original. I don't know enough about electricity to test the wires. Does the switch with the black on the outside connect to the black wire?

1 Answer

Hello Peter. Yes, you can use a pair of pliers to remove the wires from the switch WPW10130695. Be careful not to break the connector when removing it. Hope this helps.
