This washer lid switch is the safety interlock that tells the machine the lid is closed. Replacing a worn switch restores proper spin and cycle operation and helps prevent nuisance shutoffs when the lid is bumped or opened.

  • Detects lid position and enables washer operation only when the lid is closed
  • Interrupts power with the lid open for user safety
  • Typical symptoms of failure: washer won't start or won't spin, stops mid-cycle, or runs only when pressing down on the lid
  • Mechanical position sensor; it does not lock the lid
What's included: 1 lid switch Install notes:
  • Disconnect power before servicing; verify the tub is fully stopped
  • Access is typically from the main top or cabinet—remove screws or release spring clips as designed
  • Note wire routing and mounting orientation; transfer any existing hardware and secure the ground as originally installed
  • Test lid-close operation before reassembling and running a cycle

For Whirlpool Lid Switch (Washer) (Part Number: OEM18072981)

Joe for Model Number MAV6200AWW

2 questions. 1. when I go to order the lid switch for this model it shows up then when I check compatibility it shows not compatible. Can you double check the part number needed.AP6024324 2. Washer just stopped working. nothing. When to check lid switch. unplug lid switch, pushed down plunger with screw driver, plugged lid switch back in, plug in washer and now it works. But when open cover it will not stop the washer. Can I assume it is the lid switch? was going to order all 3 parts, lid switch, plunger, cam, does that sound like the problem,,,,thanks joe

Hello John. Sorry we do not have a video at this time. We are working daily at adding new videos to our site. To access the lid switch you will need to remove the control panel of the unit by taking the back off the control panel. This should give access for the lid switch to be removed. You may have to lift the main top to get it out but this can be done by pushing 2 spring clips in between the main top and the front panel.

Debby for Model Number unknown. label is gone

I have an older maytag and the lid switch is broken. I have no idea what the model number is. You can see where the label used to be, but it is gone. I am relatively sure the switch is either an Ap40088646 or AP6024324. I see no real difference in the appearance on your website photos of the switches. The number cast into the old broken switch is 6 2611000. I see used junk on ebay with that part number.....but would rather have a new switch since they are not that expensive. Are you able to do anything with the casting number on my old switch? Thanks!

Hello Duane. The way that you would test the lid switch on this unit is to check continuity between L1 (line) and SW (machine). You should have contact between these 2 points whether the lid is open or closed. You also check between L1 and M (motor). With lid open you should not have continuity and with lid closed you would have continuity. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Hello Ronald, You should ynplug the washer and tilt it back and see if you can turn the pulley 12002213 by hand. It should turn in both directions. One direction should turn the agitator and the other direction will unlock the break and allow the complete tub assembly and transmission assembly to spin. If it will not turn in the agitate direction you should check for items between the tubs and/or screws/nails hanging through a hole in the spin basket. Check that the drain pump can also spin freely. The belt will need to be removed to check the pump. If no problems are located, replace the transmission assembly 35-6615.

Wanda, You will want to check the drain pump to make sure that it is not clogged, restricted and make sure that it is spinning freely. If not then the pump WP35-6465 will need to be replaced.

Amanda, With having to advance the timer manually to get it to spin then it sounds like a contact in the timer may be sticking or a bad spot on the cam which will not allow the timer to advance. This would require a new timer.
