Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Ice Dispenser Motor (Part Number: OEM18018156)

Carey D for Model Number ED5PHEXRL00

Our Whirlpool refrigerator will make loud motor-like noises (almost like a motorcycle) at random times. Sometimes unplugging it and replugging it in solves the issue. It will go 2 weeks without acting up and then start again. If this occurs at night it is loud enough to wake up everyone in our modest size house. The sound seems to be occuring toward the back approximately where the icemaker is located. Is there a known fix for this (with instructions)? Thanks in advance!

1 Answer

Carey, Basically, there are no componwnts located in the area of the ice maker, other than the ice maker itself 4317943. If there is an intermittent issue with the mold heater or thermostat, that could cause the control motor or linkage to "chatter" when trying to release the cubes. You may want to start there. Good Luck and Thanks

Hi Louise. Remove the ice bin and tape the door switch shut. Insert a cup and open the door. Now is the crusher solenoid going up and down ? Is the auger motor running now? If so then look at the inside of the bin. Is the auger frozen to the bottom of the inside of the bin? If so then make sure it is cleared and dried completely. Make sure you remove the ice bin and clean it monthly. Dry it completely inside and out so it does not freeze again. Shards of crushed ice will collect at the bottom and cause this. Also if the ice door flapper kit is worn out and not closing all the way. Motor 241689301. If the door paddle micro-switch part # 241689106 then this may cause the command (voltage) not to be sent to the fountain control board part # 5304525097. Thank You.

Gintt for Model Number kscs25jfss00

Thank you for such great documentation. I followed all the preceding steps. Pushing the either the ice dispenser handle or microswitch for ice dispenser (after removing front bezel) activates solenoid, but not dispenser motor. I tested the voltage to the blue/white leads going to the motor. Tested 0 VAC with freezer door switch closed and ice dispenser switch activated. Microswitch shows continuity when activated, open when released. What other component(s) control voltage to the auger motor?

1 Answer

Hello Gintt. You will need to check and see if the micro-computer WP2203076 is sending power to the micro-switch. You can test for power at the micro-switch. If not, you may need to replace the micro-computer located under the refrigerator in the back. Hope this helps.

Hello Ryan. Check and make sure the fill tube for the icemaker is not frozen and the icemaker cycles and sends power to the water valve. If so, and no water comes to the icemaker, replace the water valve W10408179. If the icemaker does not cycle, replace the icemaker 4317943. Hope this helps.
