This is a Whirlpool washer drive motor and control board. The drive motor and motor control board are responsible for the spin cycles of the washer. A faulty motor may show signs of malfunction through a slower than average spin cycle. When the control board shorts out, the washer typically will not spin at all.Begin installation by removing the body of the washer. There are two screws at the base of the console. Remove these screws and flip the console back. Two clips are holding the body in place. Remove them with a flat-head screwdriver. Push these clips and pull the body off the washer. Now that the motor is exposed, remove the screws holding the motor in place with a nut driver. Two more clips fasten the motor. Push these clips with the flat head, and the motor is free to remove. Unplug the control board's wire harness from the washer. The new component is ready for install after these steps. The part is sourced directly from the manufacturer as a genuine OEM product. This kit is sold separately from the washer. This product is compatible with Whirlpool, Maytag, and Admiral appliances.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Drive Motor (Part Number: OEM12030444)

Hello Ron. The DC code Distribute Clothes: The load is unbalanced, preventing high speed spin. Redistribute clothes. It sounds like the clutch may be the issue, but check the balance sensor and make sure it is good. If so, replace the clutch assembly.

My Maytag Neptune front loading washer was sounding like a jet engine in the spin cycle, so we replaced the bearings and seal kit. After re-assembly, the machine does not appear to go into a full spin cycle. The washer will spin fast, but not for an extended period. Clothes now come out extremely wet, a problem I didn't have prior to replacing the bearings and seal. I have tried running additional spin cycles and the washer still will not go into a full term spin cycle. I have read in another forum that someone had the exact same issue and found it to be "a loose connection on the motor" but they did not elaborate as to what was loose. Ideas?

Katrina, You may want to check the drain hose first, it may have gotten kinked or twisted when the washer was moved back into position. The motor wire harness is a "multi plug" connector 22004212 and 22002471 (if you still have the original motor) and will only attach one way. It is routed from the motor control board WP22004046 to the back of the motor 12002039, it can be unplugged and re attached to make sure it is seated and locked in place properly.

My front loading washer was sounding like a jet engine in spin cycle, replaced the bearings and seal. Immediately after putting it all back together we have the problem of it doesn't seem to go into the high speed spin cycle and clothes come out soaking wet. Door locked light comes on. I read in a blog from 2011 that someone had the same problem and finally found it to be a "loose connection on the motor". Any ideas what this connection could be?

1 Answer

Katrina, You would want to check to makes sure that the wire harness for the motor has good connections and check the motor control to make sure that all the connectors are seated properly. This also could be caused by a bad spin enable switch WP22002162.

On this washer it wont spin and the clothes come out very wet. I found a bad drain pump. So I replaced it and the Recirc pump and hoses. Still wont spin up fast enough to get all the water out but the drain pump works well now. I have checked all the balance swithces and they check good checked WAX and spin enable switch. Today while checking it the fuse blew on the motor control board. It is the old style. I see there is alot of problems with the rear drum bearing. The drum spins easy and is not loose or noisey when you turn it. Can a bad rear drum bearing cause this slow spin problem? I know I have to replace the motor and control board but if all this is caused by a bad drum bearing then maybe its time to start with new.

Hello Kevin. It does not sound like the bearings are bad based on the information you provided. It could be caused by the motor kit being bad on the unit.

Hello David, The drive motor kit 12002039 includes both the motor and the motor control board. It should also include the instructions in case your unit still has the original motor and motor controller. If your unit has a micro-switch on the left rear shock absorber, it is to be bypassed as per the manufacturer. Simply cut the wires and splice the wires together to bypass it. The micro-switches should not be bypassed during normal operation since this will allow the door to open during spin if the wax motor is not locking the door. You should also check the machine control board in the control panel for a burned resister in position R-11. If this resistor is burned, the machine control board and the door lock wax motor will have to be replaced for normal operation to be restored.

Our Maytag SuperStack Wash/Dryer randomly stops during the wash cycle. It is less than 10 years old so still under warranty. a Maytag repair technician came out and said the motor is bad (which is covered under warranty) but that the motor control assembly is not covered and needs to be purchased separately. When I look for the part it appears that the drive motor kit comes with the motor control assembly. Does the drive motor kit come with all the parts necessary to replace the motor and motor control board?

1 Answer

Hello Kristin. Yes, it comes with the motor and they should order the kit doing the repair.

Hello Arnie. You need to test for power to the pump and make sure it is not clogged. If it is clear, and there is power, but it does not drain, you will replace the pump WP22003059 on the unit.

Our stacked Maytag unit has serial number 24518489yf. The washer stops at random times during the cycle. The unit makes a soft chirping sound for a few seconds then is quiet. Sometimes if we push start again it will run for a while. A repair person was out and said he needs to upgrade the motor control board before he can even diagnose. This upgrade is rather costly. I'd like to try to upgrade the board myself. Where can I purchase the upgrade kit? Thanks, Greg
