For Whirlpool Refrigerator Ice Dispenser Motor (Part Number: OEM18049533)

Don for Model Number GS6NBEXRL00

Hi, My ice dispenser chute door motor (Whirlpool part number W10184813) died and I purchased a new one. I can’t install it as it is about 90 degrees out of alignment. In other words when I slide the lever onto the motor it’s about 90° out of position. I hook everything up and dispense ice and the motor rotates 90° to open the door, waits a few seconds then rotates back 90° to close it and if I could just rotate the motor 90° when I install it it would work fine but you can’t. Playing with the old motor it really feels like if I force the motor to the position I need it to be and I will break something. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

Don, the door chute motor WPW10184813 can be rotated into position by hand. While it is installed, the door chute flapper connector WP2305242 can be pressed to get the motor position as close as possible.

Hello Gigi, I'm sorry but we will need to ask you to post a new question including the model number from your units' I.D. tag so we can provide a proper diagnosis and recommend parts that can be guaranteed to work properly on your unit. We also need a bit more information on the complaint. Can you hear the auger motor running when attempting to dispense ice? Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.

Colby for Model Number KSRS25FTMS01

After reading several Q&A posts on this site, I was able to successfully diagnose my original dispenser issue: bad auger motor. But now, only one day after it was working flawlessly, the dispenser door does not work. I can hear a click when the button (pad) is pushed, which sounds like the relay activating and then a few seconds after the button is released, another click. The motor does activate if tapped on the side with a screwdriver. (Sledgehammer didn't fit.) Should I just replace the motor? Or should I bench test the motor and test the outputs from the dispenser board first?

Ice chute door closes, but doesn't always stay closed. Side-by-side design, and sometimes closing refrigerator door too quickly causes ice chute door to pop open a little. I can close it manually, but that's not a proper solution. Replaced ice chute door since pad had become worn and thought it was not sealing tightly. That helped, but didn't solve problem. I examined the connector arm from the motor spindle and the plastic support that holds chute door for signs of wear, but they looked OK to me. The motor that closes the door works, but could it be too weak to close completely? Is it even possible for a motor to weaken rather than fail? I want to replace the correct part. Thanks.

PW, It would be more likely that the motor for the ice door is the culprit causing the door to not fully close or pop open when the freezer door is closed.

Brian, You can check the voltage going to the motor when putting a load on it and see if it is getting constant power. If it is then the issue would be with the motor. Otherwise it will be a dispenser control board issue.

Dalek for Model Number kscs25fvbl02

I just replaced the water filter on my 3-yr old Kitchenaid refrigerator. Now, when I push a glass against the water dispenser paddle, the water flow is severely restricted and there is a grinding noise like a water pump gone bad. I can't understand why a filter change affects a water pump. I have replaced the filter a half-dozen times before, no problem. Why does the water dispenser need a motorized pump? What parts need replacing, and what is the process?

1 Answer

Hello Dalek, I looked over the model from the model number you listed and there is no pump on this design. This unit uses a "smart valve" WPW10159840. This sounds like you could have a failing mechanical water switch that is built into the water filter housing. For this reason, the water filter housing WPW10121140 would be the first thing I would replace. The next would the water valve.

Bud, As of late, the Ice Door Motor W10184813 has been the culprit, for similar complaints like yours. You can test the motor to verify it has failed: 1. Unplug refrigerator or disconnect power. 2. Disconnect the motor connector at P5 on the core board. 3. Set the ohmmeter to the R x 1 scale. 4. Touch the ohmmeter test leads to the following motor connector pins: Pin 1 to pin 2,3,5,or 6 = 45 to 55 O. If the readings are not in range replace the ice door motor. Can you show me the picture of pin?
