Causes of a bad Ice Auger Gear Motor can include wear and tear from regular use, electrical issues that prevent the motor from receiving power, or mechanical problems that hinder the motor's ability to turn the auger.

Symptoms of a bad Ice Auger Gear Motor include:

  • The ice dispenser not working or dispensing ice very slowly.
  • A humming or grinding noise coming from the ice dispenser mechanism.
  • Ice not being dispensed at all, despite there being ice in the bin.

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Hello Glenn. There is a cover under the bottom of the dispenser housing that will need to be removed to access the dispenser motor WP2212363. Once the cover is removed, you will remove the screws and wiring harness holding the old motor in place. Reinstall in reverse order with the new motor. Hope this helps.

Mike, Check and make sure the ice dispenser flapper is closing completely and has no air leaks, Make sure the freezer air temperature is not belw 5 dgrs.F. Remove the dispenser facade and feel the door panel just below the dispenser, is there moisture or is there a "cold spot" in that area ? You may have developped a void in the door insulation causing the motor to freeze. You may want to run a small bead of silicone sealer around the door dispenser where it attaches to the door, to eliminate any air transfer into the door. Thanks and Good Luck

Kevin for Model Number GD5PHAXMS10

SN: SR1425729 The fridge stopped dispensing ice. I tested the connectors to the motor and found 120VAC at pin 3 and 5 being supplied from the control board when activated. Then I pull the motor out from the fridge and ran 120VAC from a wall-outlet through pin 3 and 5 of the motor with no responses. I did the same thing to both motors that I received from you and they did not respond to the test. My thoughts have been that if a motor operates when I give it 120VAC through those pins then when I put it in the fridge, it will run when I activate the switch. Are there any other suggestions on how to test these motors to ensure that they're operating as normal before installing them. As now, I'm positive that they will not fix the problem once I put them in

Hello Kevin. You can not test the motor like that. It will need to be installed. You are dropping neutral and voltage is supplied to the terminals in sequence. Install the motor WP2212363 and it should work correctly, if it wasn't damaged by hooking it up outside the unit. Hope this helps.

Kevin, You can't test run the motor in that fashion. If you haven't damaged the motor, you need to attach the harness to the motor and test run it, or run VAC and VDC checks at the harness connection to verify the "switch pack" and wiring are working. Good Luck and thanks

Hello Linda. Unhook the water line at the bottom of the freezer door. Then press the button and see if you have water there. If so, the water line in the freezer door is frozen and will need to be thawed out. If there is no water there, you may have a bad water valve W10408179. Hope this helps.
