The Circulation Motor is an OEM part for Whirlpool dishwashers. It is responsible for pumping water through the spray arms to ensure thorough cleaning of dishes during the wash cycle. This motor helps maintain consistent water pressure and flow, crucial for effective dishwashing performance.

Over time, the circulation motor can fail due to factors such as motor wear, electrical issues, or blockages that cause the motor to overheat or become damaged. Regular use and the buildup of debris or hard water deposits can also contribute to motor failure.

Symptoms of a bad circulation motor include:

  • Poor cleaning results
  • Unusual noises during the wash cycle
  • Water not circulating properly
  • Dishwasher not completing cycles

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Circulation Motor (Part Number: OEM18072123)

1 Answer

Hello Brendan, I'm sorry but this is a change made in parts availability by the manufacturer. This could be because of a change in the parts compatibility or to correct an issue causing a repeated failure but we have no control over this and the manufacturer seldom states why a part change like this has taken place.

Louise, You will want to check the impeller of the dishwasher to make sure that it is not separated from the shaft of the circulation motor and make sure that it is not damaged. If damaged then the impeller would need to be replaced. If this checks ok then it sounds like the pump may need to be replaced.

Mj for Model Number KUDS02FRWH2

Dishwasher is a KitchenAid KUDS02FRWH2, installed in 2006. Dishwasher starts cycle, but only a hum is heard instead of normal washing/circulation of water sounds. After investigating, determined that water enters basin of washer, and water drains from basin, but no water circulates/sprays during cycle, just a hum. Cleaned sump and replaced damaged chopper with new chopper part ordered from you guys. Old chopper had a bent blade, and 50% of that bent blade was missing as it had ground down on screen. Found a hard piece of plastic and broken piece of china in chopper basin. Cleaned everything out and installed new chopper. NOTE: With the power off to the dishwasher, I could not turn by hand the black impeller part (of the wash motor) that the white chopper couples with. Even after installing the new chopper and coupling it with the black impeller, I could not turn the new chopper blades at all. Reassembled everything, and still had same problem with just a hum and no washing/circulation of water. So, I suspect it is a jammed or damaged wash motor. Questions: (1) Before I try to pull out the dishwasher, is there any more troubleshooting I can do to pinpoint a problem with the chopper, wash motor or with something else? (2) If I pull the dishwasher out to get at the wash motor, what troubleshooting should I do before making a decision whether to replace the wash motor? I will try to spin the fins of the wash motor with a screwdriver, but is there anything else I should be doing? Could something be wedged in the motor that I could locate and somehow try to remove? (3) If you think it is the wash motor and nothing will work but replacing it, can you tell me what I need to order (not sure of the right part #)? I believe there are two possibilities depending on how much I want to spend and how much labor I want to do. Any insight into this choice is much appreciated. (4) Can you give me a link to a video or instructions as to how I replace the motor (or whatever part needs to be replaced) for this dishwasher model? Thanks for your help!

MJ, With the impeller not spinning it sounds like the circulation pump motor is seized up and would need to be replaced. The part number for the circulation motor is WPW10757217. It can only be gotten as a entire assembly and cannot get just the motor itself.

Kurt for Model Number GU2400XTPQ0

My dishwasher fills up with water then tries to turn pump on and it just hums. I took everything apart to get to chopper blade and impeller and found some rusted screws/ broken glass and a rusted paper clip. No idea how screws/paper clip got in there? Everything looked clean. Removed chopper blade and screen. Blade wobbled around inside of screen like screen was worn or whatever supports the chopping blade was worn. Not sure how freely impeller should turn but it was very hard to turn. Could something be jammed in impeller? If so, how do I get to it? Do I have to uninstall dishwasher and remove the motor to get to it? Is the Motor Band? would it just be easier to purchase a whole new motor assembly so I get everything new?

1 Answer

Hello Kurt. Based on the information you provided, it is best to replace the complete motor assembly W10782773 to repair the issue you are having with the unit.

Hello Peter. You need to check and see if the hoses are clogged on the unit. If none are clogged, you will need to order and replace the drain pump WP661658 on the unit.

George, You will want to check the impeller to make sure that it is not damage. Also check the check ball to make sure that it is moving freely. If these check ok then the circulation motor is most likely faulty and would need to be replaced.

Phillip G for Model Number Whirlpool Dishwasher GU1100XTLQ1

Has been making a humming noise while in operation not during filling or draining. Dishes not getting clean. Took apart bottom sprayer, filter and, chopper today and found a lot of hard deposits, debris. It appeared most of the drain holes were clogged. Scraped and vacuumed everything hoping that would cure the problem. Ran scour cycle with 2 cups of vinegar that I let sit in tub 20 min. prior to starting cycle. I can see both sprayers spinning when I open the door quickly. It is still making the humming noise though. Can I test the pump with a volt meter? If so what are the steps? Any other ideas? Thank you!

1 Answer

Phillip, You can test the motor winding which should be 3.7 ohms of resistance on the run winding and on the auxillary should be 6.25. Also test the capacitor for 23.5 uF. It is most likely that there may still be deposits that could cause the noise issue.

Sandip, Replacing just the impeller should correct the issue you are having with the dishwasher. There are no other sealants or gaskets required to do this.

Tom S for Model Number Kichenaid model KUDp01flss1.

I have the Kichenaid model KUDp01flss1. I hit the start button. Then water comes on. You can see the float (from underneath) rising and when it gets to a certain point the machine stops filling with water. You then here a hum. There's also a slight odor of something getting hot. I reach back to the motor and touch the metal part of the motor (I think it's the motor). In any case the machine does not run. I've removed the accumulator assembly and found no debris. I've confirm the drain pump is working (press and hold the cancel button). Can you make any recommendations? Tom S

1 Answer

Hello Tom. If the motor is not clogged, and the unit is humming, but not running, you will need to order and replace the circulation motor in the unit.

Troy, You will want to check the impeller inside the pump to make sure that there is nothing causing it not to circulate the water. If the impeller checks ok then the circulation pump would most likely be the issue.
