Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Pump And Motor Assembly (Part Number: OEM18072192)

Joey, You will want to get down into the pump and check to make sure that there is nothing caught down inside the pump assembly. This would be the most likely cause of the issue. Check the impeller to make sure that it is not damaged.

Tom N for Model Number GU2455XTSS0

Our Whirlpool dishwasher (GU2455XTSS0) is about 8 years old. It seems to have "somewhat" low pressure, as the inside of glasses and mugs on the top rack are not getting much water and end up still dirty. Dishes on the bottom also seem not quite as clean. I have checked both arms and the small spinner on the top for blockages and all are clean. The seals seem OK, not tight but not broken. The filters, sump area, and food chopper assembly are clean, the impeller drive to the chopper is fine, the motor turns, water fills to the bottom of the heater element, AND the circulation motor is very quiet. Could the impeller still be bad, causing low flow? Also, can the motor be "weak", though it sounds fine and is moving quite a bit of water, just not enough? Or, any other ideas? :) Thanks very much!

Tom, If the motor is turning it would be more likely that the issue will be with the impeller assembly not moving the water properly.

Hello Gary, The feed tube should simply snap into the metal clips that are retained in the rear and top of the tub. To remove it you must flex the metal retainers open enough to remove the feed tube tabs from the retainers. There is usually one at the top and one in the rear. This will allow you to remove the feed tube from the top of the manifold. Be sure to handle this with care so you will not damage the seal at the manifold.

Turnip, I believe your model should read MDB8959AWS4. The pump and motor assembly listed for your model is part number W10806701. Thanks.

Mark W for Model Number GU2200XTSQ3

I'm pretty sure I have a problem with either the circulation pump motor or the impeller on my dishwasher. After seeing your video, I think I could handle the replacement of the motor. The entire pump assembly is only $35 more, I'm leaning toward buying that in order to get new chopper, etc. Questions: 1) How hard is it to replace the entire pump and sump assembly? Do you have a video for that? Is it harder than swapping out a motor? 2) Does the pump assembly come with a thermistor? The description makes it sound like it doesn't, and that it has a "new, larger Thermister port". I'm wondering if my present (perfectly good) thermister will fit. Thanks very much. Mark

1 Answer

Mark, The pump is actually easier to replace the to replace the motor assembly. There are 3 tabs that you pull out to release the sump housing on the unit. The thermistor opening is larger than the original on part number WPW10780877 but if you get W10782773 the original thermistor should work. Here is a video for replacing the pump and motor assembly. http://fast.wistia.net/embed/iframe/60mnb62qda?controlsVisibleOnLoad=true&plugin%5Bsocialbar-v1%5D%5Bbuttons%5D=email-twitter-googlePlus-facebook&version=v1&videoHeight=237&videoWidth=422&volumeControl=true&autoPlay=true

Jim for Model Number DU1100XTPSA

Dishwasher starts pumps and heats water but wash cycle won't start it just hums and shuts down. Cancel/drain cycle worked. Tear down indicated mechanical problems (bearings fell out of housing on motor shaft). I'm considering buying the circulation pump and motor assembly to repair. My concern is I live in a remote area with frequent power outages which have damaged other appliances. I'd hate to spend this much on repair parts and then find I've got a circuit board problem also. Do the facts that all the modes seemed to work filling and heating the water and also the cancel/drain was functional in general indicate the circuit boards are OK? Thanks

1 Answer

Jim, The fact that the " bearings fell out of housing on motor shaft" would explain why the motor would only hum in the wash cycle. At this point, we'd be 95% sure the control board is OK and working properly. Compared to a new dishwasher, it may be worth the repair.

Tim D for Model Number 665.13842K601

Is there anyway to tell if I need a circ pump assembly versus a control board? And should I just buy a new machine if either/both of those are bad? I know that water is coming in and being pumped out because I've opened the door during the cycle. But the dishes are not being cleaned. It's like they never get sprayed. It was getting louder the last couple months but it's only five years old. Doesn't anyone build a dishwasher for under $1000.00 that lasts?

1 Answer

Hello Tim. If the water level is correct, and the motor runs, but does not spray, you will need to replace the circulation motor WPW10780877 in the unit.
