Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Water Level Switch Kit (Part Number: OEM13704474)

Dee, To a slight degree it is possible. but not likely, that the water level could be high enough to cause the articles to tumble and "bunch up", and cause unbalanced loads. You need to check the more obvious and common issues, level the washer and lock the legs, check the shock absorbers and tub springs, proper loading, etc.

Hello Joe, This could be a water pressure issue, a water valve sticking issue, or a sticking pressure switch. To explain the first, there is no spring inside the water valve to aid in its' closure. Water pressure alone closes the valve. If the water pressure is low at the time it should close, it could be staying open and to add to this, if the water valve is sticking, this makes it that much harder for the valve to close. If you wanted to be sure the issue doesn't occur again, replace the water valve, the pressure switch, and make sure if there are any screens in the supply hoses, they are clean.

Hello Bill. If you can stop the water from entering the machine by turning off the timer or unplugging the unit, you will need to look for a bad pressure hose or replace the pressure switch. If the only way to shut off the water is at the shut off for the water hoses, you will need to replace the water valve in the unit.

Hello Cliff. These are not hard to replace. Unplug the unit and remove the 2 screws on the back corners of the control panel. Pull the panel forward and flip it backwards. Next unplug the lid switch and remove the 2 brass clips from the cabinet. Pull of the cabinet and access the pressure hose. Rmove the old hose and install the new hose in the same location. Next pull off the switch knob. Release the locking tab and twist the switch to remove it. Istall new switch in reverse order.

Bucket, The unit operates off of a thermistor that is in on the water valve. The thermistor will sense what the water temperature is and open and close according to the temp. If the incoming water temperature is above 70 degrees then the bimetal will not open to allow hot water to come in. It is possible that the bimetal is defective and water valve would need to be replaced.

Hello Denny, You would want to use a putty knife on either side of the control panel. On either side there is a clip that you would want to push in on and lift up on the control.

Cherie H. for Model Number rtw4440vq1

Hi, I have a Roper washer the water level is filling proper however when it reaches the spin cycle the water does not stop running through the machine and is expelled as it spins. I googled this issue and saw a "test" that I performed. I shut the machine off but left the water on, the water did not continue to flow. The FixYa site said it was the pressure switch if the water shut off. I am trying to confirm that this is the problem before ordering the water level switch. Thank you!

1 Answer

Hello Cherie, Basically, the way the test goes is to start the unit filling and unplug the machine. If the water continues to fill, the water valve has failed. If the water stops filling when it is unplugged, the issue is electrical. The pressure switch is the main cause of the issue, (excluding the harness being shorted and the pressure switch hose being clogged).

Hello Chrystal. It sounds like the water valve may be bad and not letting the cold water come into the unit. You need to check and see if you can get cold water into the unit. If not, replace the water valve WPW10140917.
