Dean January 08, 2013 for Model Number 106.74264400 The freezer works fine most of the time but the refridgerator does not cool. Sometimes the freezer will stop cooling but that doesnt last long an it starts back cooling but its the fridge that doesnt cool at all.
1 Answer Hello Dean. Look for frost on the back wall inside the freezer. If there is some frost there, It sounds like you may have a defrost problem with the unit. Check and see if there is any frost build up on the back wall of the freezer. If so, you will need to test the defrost heater and the defrost thermostat. They should read closed for continuity when cold. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. I will include a link at the end to assist you how to use the multi-meter if needed. If both parts are good, you will need to replace the defrost timer. Once the problem is repaired, you will need to thaw out the ice on the coils before the unit will operate properly. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
Dave December 19, 2012 for Model Number Jenn-Air JCD2289AE The refrigerator runs nearly constantly. No matter I set the temperature control levers, the freezer and refrigerator are both very cold . Seems as though it always runs in full cooling mode no mater where the temperature controls are set. Freezer is always below zero and refrigerator is in mid thirty's..
1 Answer Hello Dave. Based on the information you provided, it sounds like the cold control WP61005651 is bad and will need to be replaced on the unit. Read More...
Wade December 19, 2012 for Model Number whirlpool GX5SHDXVD00 You had previously ask me to check the following - do I have to get to the back of the refrigerator by moving it away from the wall or do I remove the back cover from within the freezer section to find these parts??? (See previous response and THANKS!!) Check and see if there is any frost build up on the back wall of the freezer. If so, you will need to test the defrost heater 67002493 and the defrost thermostat W10165425. They should read closed for continuity when cold. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. I will include a link at the end to assist you how to use the multi-meter if needed. If both parts are good, you will need to replace the defrost timer 12868513.
1 Answer Hello Wade. This is tested inisde the freezer, not on the back of the unit next to the wall. Read More...

Justin December 05, 2012 I have a maytag refrigerator with dual slide controls on the fresh food side. The refrigerator is freezing both sides and sometimes the motor will shut off if I tap the in between both thermostat controls. Then I tap it again and it turns back on. What do you think the problem is. If I leave it run, it seems to continuously run???
1 Answer Justin, based on your information, you probably have a faulty freezer control, But since you also have an "auto damper" to control the refrigerator compartment, it has also failed. When the refrigerator reaches temperature, the damper door should close, apparently it's stuck open. you'll need the model and serial number to order the proper parts, once you have that information, we should be able to assist you from there. Ashok B November 17, 2012 for Model Number ED25RFXFN01 I have whirlpool model ED25RFXFN01. Few weeks ago it quit working, so I called a repairman. Before he came, it started working. When I explained to him what happened, he said: it appears that thermostat (located at the top of refrigerator side may be lose or not working properly. If it happens again, just tap firmly on the knob, and it will kick in. Well, it seemed to have worked. But now it is happening more often. So I would like to replace it. My question: how difficult is it to replace on my own? Any suggestions? I think the unit costs no more than $25-30. I appreciate your help and advice.
1 Answer Hello Ashok. The cold control WP2198202 is not hard to replace on the unit. The cold control is in the fresh food section inside the control box. Since these controls are all electrical, please discontinue the power supply to the unit before starting. This model is a bit tricky to access. First, look at the fresh food wall opposing the freezer about halfway back. You should see a screw that removes a short plastic cover. Then the knobs have to be pulled out and the plastic strip (escutcheon) behind the knobs has to be carefully pryed out. There are screws hiding behind this plastic strip. There are also screws behind the control box, (two I think). If you look up at the fresh food ceiling directly behind the control box they are visible. You might have to remove a bulb or two. NOTE: When the screws are removed, the control box will drop and want to hang on a metal rod that leads back to the air damper assembly. Do not allow the control box to hang as this will break the plastic ear it connects to causing more repair expense and frustration. At this point I usually remove the cover held on by one screw at the top rear of the freezer compartment. This gains access to the four tabs that hold the damper assembly in place. The cold control can be accessed and replaced at this point. Note the routing of the cold control tube as the new one needs to take the same route and the plastic tube cover has to be taken off the old one and installed on the new one. Of course, reassembly is in the reverse order. Read More...
Al October 29, 2012 for Model Number RT21LMXKQ06 Bought and installed a timer I bought from your site. Worked fine for awhile then started the problem again. Found the cold control was sticking and replaced it. It worked fine again for awhile. No more problem with heating up between cycles but now I have a new problem. A few days ago the defrost and compressor kicked on at the same time, sounded like a war going on in there, the refrigerator quit and didn't run for about ah hour. Then started and ran fine for a couple of more days. Last night it did it again and I unplugged it. I am sure it was defrosting as it ran as water ran into the catch pan under the refrigerator and as I said it was really loud. Could there be a loose wire somewhere that grounds out from time to time? Does this unit have a control board that is going bad? This morning I turned it on and it was in defrost mode. The freezer was at 60deg and I could hear the element heating up. Unplugged it again and I am waiting for your response.
1 Answer Hello Al, Based on the information provided, the defrost timer WP2314156 would be the only part that would cause the defrost and compressor to run at the same time. Read More...
Niki R October 28, 2012 for Model Number CROSLEY CS21B5D side by side fridge Our 1999 model Crosley refrigerator is cooling only to 58 degrees, despite turning the dial up as far as it will go. Pulled it out and did a vaccuum on everything in the back of unit. Cannot seem to find anything out of place. Any suggestions??? We are 60 miles from town on a farm/ranch - and repair people are few and far between. THANKS in advance!
1 Answer Hello Niki, The first thing that you would want to check is to see if you have any frost build up on the back wall of the freezer compartment. If there is frost build up this would indicate that you have a defrost system failure WP68233-2 Timer or WP61006116 Heater/thermostat Assembly. You would wand to check the heater and thermostat assembly to ensure you have continuity. You can also turn the defrost timer into the defrost mode to check to see if heater comes on. If there is no continuity on the thermostat/heater then you will need to replace. If you do have continuity then replace timer. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
