Symptoms of a bad dual water inlet valve include:

  • No water flow to the ice maker or water dispenser
  • Slow filling or low water pressure in the dispenser
  • Leaking water around the valve area
  • Ice maker not producing ice

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Dual Water Inlet Valve (Part Number: OEM18031554)

Matt, the fill valve on your refrigerator has "john guess" compression fittings. To remove the water tube from the valve inlets, you press in on the blue and yellow "collars" that surround the water tube(s) and tug out on the tube at the same time. To install the water tubes, check and make sure there are no burrs on the end of the tube, make sure the end of the tube is a straight even cut end. Press in on the collar, and insert the tube into the opening, press the tube in as far as possible, and release the collar, then slightly tug out on the water tube, theis helps to seat and "lock" the tube in place and reduce the possibility of a leak. Then turn o the water supply and check for operation and leaks.

Hello Rick. If the icemaker is overfilling, replace the water valve. However, if the icemaker is leaking, just replace the icemaker.

My house was hit by lightning and the ice maker cables were burn in the ice maker end (connection to the engine box), and the fridge wall was smoked. I first replaced the cable but that wasn't enough, then i replaced the engine box, and it is still not working. We heard the sound of the ice maker but there was no ice. Is it possible that the solenoid of the water pump was burn too? How can I check was is the part that is not working? Thanks, Antonio

Antonio, If you jump out terminals T to H on the icemaker assembly and then check for 120 vac to get to the water valve once the icemaker reaches the 11:30 position. If there is not 120 vac then the issue would be with the icemaker or harness. If it does have voltage then the issue will be a faulty water valve.

Hello Street. Make sure the freezer is between 0° and 5°. You need to check and see if there is power going to the water valve when the icemaker cycles. If not, or the icemaker does not cycle, you will need to replace the icemaker on the unit. Also, check and make sure the fill tube on the unit is not frozen and clogged. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

OK. Now we are getting somewhere. I'm in the kitchen and I heard the pump trying to fill the ice trays. Upon inspection, very little water was in the trays. I began to look at the filler tube to see if it was clogged. I was able to see the tube with holes on the top of it that carries water from the inlet tube on the freezer back wall to the ice maker was blocked with a bit of ice. I was able to clear the tube and will try to clear the ice were inner tube meets the connection with the outer tube. Hopefully when I clear the ice obstruction that will clear the way for the trays to fill and not refreeze causing another water blockage.

Matt, Plan on replacing the Dual Water Valve WP67006531 The slow minimal water being let in and the ice forming in the ice maker fill tube, indicate and issue with the fill valve itself. The ice in the fill tube is usually due to water "seeping" through the valve and accumulating in the tube and freezing.

My Maytag unit is not making ice. I checked the ice maker and the tray is dry. The front door water dispenser works fine. I'm suspecting the dual water valve but is it possible for the water valve to work for door water but fail to supply water to the ice maker? I'm sure I need to replace the water filter but I get good water supply to the front door water supply. As a test I filled the ice trays with water and I'm waiting to see if the unit kicks them into the hopper. I also turned down the entire unit both sides in case the water tank was frozen. But if that were the case I wouldn't get good water from the door.

Hello Bill, The failure of the ice maker was just a coincidence. The water for the ice maker is not routed through the filter. Check the fill tube. If it has clear ice in it you will need to clear it with a hair dryer and replace the water inlet valve (AP4080862). If there is no ice in the fill tube, you should remove the plastic cover off of the front of the ice maker and make sure there are two tabs in the center of the big geared wheel. If there are, they should not be touching one another. If one tab is missing or the tabs are touching, replace the ice (AP4135008).

Dave, Low water pressure/flow and air in the water system can cause both of your issues. Replacing the water inlet valve and flushing a couple of gallons of water through the freezer door dispenser, will be a good and proper place to start. We presume you have already checked an replaced the water filter. And your refrigerator water supply is not attached to a reverse osmosis filter system.
