The Gas Valve is an OEM part for Whirlpool ovens and ranges. It regulates the flow of gas to the oven burner, ensuring safe and efficient operation by controlling the amount of gas released for ignition and maintaining a steady flame during cooking.

Causes of a bad gas valve can include wear and tear from regular use, exposure to high temperatures, or damage from gas impurities.

Symptoms of a bad gas valve include:

  • The oven not heating or taking a long time to heat up
  • The smell of gas when the oven is turned on
  • Inconsistent or uneven heating
  • The oven failing to maintain the set temperature

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Rarmon, You will need to pull the unit out to access the regulator on the unit. You may also need to remove the drawer at the bottom to get to the cap to flip for Natural conversion.

The burners on my stove will only light when we put a match to them. I do not see a spark coming from the burners at all, and the clicking sound when the knob is set to ignite actually sounds like it is coming from the oven. It has been like this for some time now, we just light it manually when we use it. BUT - recently my oven has not been lighting. It will light about 3/10 times we try it. I just placed an order today on your site for a new igniter, and I am hoping that was the cause of the issue. My question is - would the oven igniter be the cause of all 4 burners not lighting as well?

Rich, You will want to check the oven safety valve for 216O of resistance between bake and common terminals. If there is not proper resistance then the valve is faulty and would need to be replaced. If this checks ok then you will want to check the burner for clogs or rust around the ports at this could cause a bad gas flow and cause the oven to not ignite.

Chuck, In the event of a power outage, YES, the cooktop gas burners can be lit with a match, but you have to be careful, you may prefer to use a grille or barbeque lighter. Unfortunately, the oven burner wont light or cycle without electrical power to the igniter and safety valve. We don't see how a battery operated spark ignition system would be effective or conducive to the situation. The cost and engineering could be pretty restrictive.

Numberh, With the issue that you are having, this sounds like it could be caused by one of 2 issues. The first issue may be a weak igniter. The second issue would be clogged ports in the burner assembly or rust or debris around the burner ports.

Hi, the Bake function of my Whirlpool Accubake, WFG361LVS1, is not working. The stove-tops and broiler light and stay lit. When starting the Bake function, the igniter clickes twice, the Bake burner lights from front to back, stays lit for a few seconds, then shuts off. The sound made at this point sounds like the gas is being shut off. I tested the resistance of the Bake-to-common terminals and the Broil-to-common terminals on the gas value assembly and received 198 Ohms. The expectation was 216 Ohms. Is this an acceptable value for this part? Since the Bake and Broil terminals have identical resistance, but the Broil function works and Bake function doesn't; does this point to an issue with another part? Is it still necessary to measure the input DC voltage of the part when activating the Bake function? Would my electronic igniter module be the issue? Please help as soon as possible, Thanks, Chris

Chris, The coil resistances on the gas valve are barely in range (216 ohms +/- 10 %) but should operate satisfactorily. You want to check and make sure the igniter wire isn't loose, pinched or corroded. The DSI spark module WPW10331686 has a safety / re ignition circuit, if it doesn't "see" a change in the ground circuit from the igniter, it will shut the circuit down and the oven will go into a locked setting. Check and make sure you have the 8 to 18 DC volts to the gas valve terminals from the module and a good solid ground to the range. Then replace the DSI spark module.

Hello Carole. If the igniter does not spark again to relight, either the temp sensor or the control board is bad on the unit. If it does spark, but does not light, you will need to check out the gas safety valve on the unit.
