The Gas Valve is an OEM part for Whirlpool ovens and ranges. It regulates the flow of gas to the oven burner, ensuring safe and efficient operation by controlling the amount of gas released for ignition and maintaining a steady flame during cooking.

Causes of a bad gas valve can include wear and tear from regular use, exposure to high temperatures, or damage from gas impurities.

Symptoms of a bad gas valve include:

  • The oven not heating or taking a long time to heat up
  • The smell of gas when the oven is turned on
  • Inconsistent or uneven heating
  • The oven failing to maintain the set temperature

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Gas Valve (Part Number: OEM18056706)

1 Answer

Paul, yes, sounds like you do need a gas valve/regulator. When you place your meter leads across the center terminal, and each outside terminal you should have a resistance of 216 ohms resistance on each test. With the wires attached to the terminals, you should have a DC Volt reading of 8 to 18 VDC from the DSI spark module, when the oven is attempting to ignite.

Hello Richard. Try cleaning the orifice and if the issue continues, you will need to order and replace the gas valve for the bake burner.

Lenny, You will want to test the oven safety valve for resistance. The resistance value should be 216 ohms from bake to common and broil to common. If not then the valve is faulty and would need to be replaced.

Eric for Model Number SF262LXSB0

I have a Whirlpool Gas range SF262LXSB0 top burners lite oven section will not! Neither the bake or the broil spark igniter would spark. So I replace the spark module after that both would spark but still the oven would not light, after a couple tries both spark igniter's stop working again. I then with further inspection discovered by testing the solenoids on the shut off valve I get 199 ohms across one and nothing across the other, so there's my problem!! My question is why did the igniters stop sparking again is it because of the failed solenoid ? did or can it ruin my new spark module ??

1 Answer

Eric, In most cases the reason the igniters stop sparking is due to the solenoid being faulty if the spark module is good.

Joe, You will want to check to see if the igniters are sparking but not lighting then you will want to check the resistance of the coils on the safety valve. From either of the outer terminals to the center terminal there should be 216 ohms of resistance and if not then the valve is faulty.

Matt for Model Number GS773LXSS

My gas oven range is not heating up. The burners work fine, but when I try to turn on the oven, I hear one click, but not the pop and hiss of the igniter and gas flowing. I was originally told that it was the spark module board, which we replaced, and it turned out that was not the problem. We are now told that it is the gas safety valve. How likely is it that this is the correct diagnosis, as we are already spent a couple hundred on the spark module board and really can't afford to put much more into this repair.

1 Answer

Matt, The way to determine whether the gas safety valve WPW10293048 is faulty would be to do a resistance check ok the coils. If you pull the unit out and unplug it. Remove the wires from the safety valve making sure you mark which goes where. Do a resistance check from bake to common and from broil to common. The common is the center terminal. The resistance value should be 216 ohms across each connection. If not then the safety valve is faulty and needs to be replaced.

Hello Brian, If the spark module is getting 120Vac to terminals J1-6 when set to bake and J1-7 when set to broil, the module has failed. If the voltage is not getting there, check for the 120Vac at terminals P2-4 with the unit set to bake, (on the control board), and P2-1 with the unit set to broil. If no voltage there, replace the control WP8524251. If voltage is getting to the spark module, the spark module WPW10331686 will be at fault.

Scott for Model Number SF357PEKQ0

When I open my oven door partially, I smell gas towards the top opening. I removed the oven door, baffle burner plate, and oven flame spreader. I smelled around it and the smell seems to trace back to the oven bake burner, which I removed. This leads me to think that the gas valve (Part Number AP5306380) is leaking gas since this is what supplies the oven bake burner. 1st Question: Is it okay to apply a small amount of dishwashing liquid to the tube tip that points to the sky to see if it leaks, or will this create more problems? 2nd question: Is the gas valve (Part Number AP5306380) a common source for the gas leak symptom that I described?

1 Answer

Hello Scott. There is a gas leak detector that most gas companies recommends you use for gas. However, based on the information you provided it does sound like the gas valve is the issue. Although not, common, if a unit does leak into the oven, it is usually the gas valve causing the leak. Thanks.
