The Gas Valve is an OEM part for Whirlpool ovens and ranges. It regulates the flow of gas to the oven burner, ensuring safe and efficient operation by controlling the amount of gas released for ignition and maintaining a steady flame during cooking.

Causes of a bad gas valve can include wear and tear from regular use, exposure to high temperatures, or damage from gas impurities.

Symptoms of a bad gas valve include:

  • The oven not heating or taking a long time to heat up
  • The smell of gas when the oven is turned on
  • Inconsistent or uneven heating
  • The oven failing to maintain the set temperature

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Hello Bob. To adjust for LP, You tighten them down all the way, then come back up 1 and 1/2 rounds and then adjust the orifice until the flame is all blue.

I have recently bought a Super Capacity 465 gas range as a temporary replacement but the burners' flames seem to be too high. It is using natural gas so I'm confused on why the flames would be too high. Would the valve possibly be allowing too much gas or is there something else that could affect the burners' flames. The flames are a couple inches high and uneven. I tried putting a 10" cast iron skillet on one to see how the flame acts and it was high enough it spread around the lower 1/2" of the skillet. I'd like to narrow down the cause before I buy the parts to attempt a repair.

Hello Lance. Check and see if the unit has been converted and if you are using the proper gas for the unit. If not, that is the issue with the unit.

Having an issue with the oven. When I turn it on there is no spark to light the oven and /or broiler or the smell of propane. The oven does not even click on. All the top burners work though. I was told that it was the valve and not the igniters. I don't think that it is the spark module since the top burners work. Why would there be propane flow to the burners and not the stove/broiler? I think that it might be the igniters not lighting the propane. Does the valve recognize spark and open the valve? Any help would be great. Thanks.

Sherie, The issue could be the DSI spark module WPW10331686 and or the gas valve WPW10293048 The spark module supplies power to the igniters, when the igniter is sparking the control recognizes the voltage /resistance and completes the circuit to allow voltage to the gas valve solenoid, the solenoid opens and the gas is released and ignited. That's the easy explanation. You may want to review this post from the APP Repair Forum, [http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/267015-whirlpool-oven-wont-always-ignite.html] it is a more in depth explanation and includes the resistance and voltage checks you'll need to make at the gas valve.

Lynnette, You didn't supply a model number, but you also didn't mention installing the top burner LP orifice hoods or adjusting the bake and broil burner hoods. There's more to a LP gas conversion than just flipping the regulator cap. If your stove has a storage drawer, remove it and check to see if the conversion parts and instructions are in the bag attached to the back side of the drawer. If not repost and attach a model number and we can assist you with parts and instructions.

Eric, The gas valve WPW10293048 is the only component left, other than the wiring. But check and make sure the flip up valve in the gas valve is not in the "OFF" / UP position, if the flapper is up or off the gas to the valve is shut off, and the burner won't ignite. If the flapper id ON/down, then replace the valve, the solenoids inside the valve are weak or failed.

Dr. Evan Y for Model Number SF368LEPS2

LP Gas range. Stove top functions correctly. The oven will not work. One selects "Bake" and presses the "Start" button. The preheat function begins counting down and no response. Nothing. The broiler will not work. One selects "Custom Broil" and presses the "Start" button. The preheat function begins counting down and no response. Nothing. Both went out at the same time. The control board has been replaced and this has made not difference. Next step?

1 Answer

Dr. Evan, You will want to check the safety valve for resistance across Bake to common and from broil to common. The valves should have 216 ohms of resistance. You will also want to check to see if the igniters are sparking. If they are not getting spark then the spark module is the most likely issue.

Lance, Based on your post, it sounds like an issue in the gas valve WPW10293048, but here are the checks you should make to varify, " First thing, check and make sure the power cord is attached to a properly polarized and grounded 120 VAC outlet. A proper ground is very important for the range to operate properly. Then you'll need to make several tests at the gas distribution valve. You'll need a multi meter to test voltage and resistances. At the valve body terminals, with the wires labeled and remove from the middle terminal to each of the outer terminals, you should read 215 ohms resistance. With the wires reconnected, when you select the bake cycle, you should have a reading of 8 to 18 VDC across the red and orange wires. When you make a broil selection you should have the same 8 to 18 VDC,across the orange and blue wires. If all checks are proper(within 10%) repalce the oven bake burner and or igniter.

Alan, Based on this information it sounds like you either have bad wires to the igniter or the spark module is bad and would need to be replaced.

Hello Debby. Make sure the gas is the correct type and the shut off for the stove is turned on. It should have a shut off for it. Also, make sure there is power to the unit.
