The Gas Valve is an OEM part for Whirlpool ovens and ranges. It regulates the flow of gas to the oven burner, ensuring safe and efficient operation by controlling the amount of gas released for ignition and maintaining a steady flame during cooking.

Causes of a bad gas valve can include wear and tear from regular use, exposure to high temperatures, or damage from gas impurities.

Symptoms of a bad gas valve include:

  • The oven not heating or taking a long time to heat up
  • The smell of gas when the oven is turned on
  • Inconsistent or uneven heating
  • The oven failing to maintain the set temperature

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Hello Skyler. Under the white plastic cap is a brass nut. Unscrew the nut and flip it over to where it says LP. Then tighten down the orifice all the way and loosen back up 1 and 1/2 turns and adjust until the flame is blue.

Hello Jan, The first thing I would do is chase the entire wiring harness to ensure no wires can contact one another. Since the control is popping the wrong fault code, I suspect that if no cross circuits are possible in the harness, the controls' self-diagnostic circuit is mal-functioning. The most common cause for control failure is corrosion on connectors. Therefore, disconnecting and reconnecting wires will be necessary throughout test procedures. Check all connections before replacing components, looking for broken or loose wires, failed terminals, or wires not pressed into connectors far enough. It may not be necessary to replace the control since the unit seems to operate correctly unit a code comes up but the issue can progress and get worse with time.

Chas, You will want to check the resistance of the oven safety valve. The resistance from Bake to common (center terminal) should be 216 ohms of resistance. If there is not proper resistance then the safety valve is faulty and needs to be replaced.

Ron R for Model Number SF369LEMQ

I have a whirlpool gas range I bought at an auction about a year ago. When we first started using it you could smell a light scent of gas while it was off but went away after about a month. We had issues keeping the oven lit, sometimes it would light and stay lit after a couple tries now it lights but then you hear the gas shut off after a few seconds then the flame goes out. We used to have to set the temp above 390 and it would work now it doesn't. I called a local appliance dealer they told me it was the gas valve /built in regulator but before I spend about 150 dollars id like a second opinion. Please help thanksgiving is coming and I need a stove.

Ron, Yes, this issue would most likely be caused by a faulty Gas valve WPW10293048. When the gas valve becomes weak, the coils will cause the gas flow to stop prematurely causing the flame to go out.

Moe, You will want to check the resistance of the oven safety valve. The resistance should be 216 ohms from bake to common (which is the center terminal) and broil to common. If the resistance is not correct then the safety valve is faulty and would need to be replaced.

Hello Andy. This sounds like a grounding issue. You will need to check all the wiring on the unit. If good, see if your model offers the burner and igniter assembly. If so, you will need to order and replace those parts.

Richard, You should have a reading of 215 ohms resistance from the center terminal to either of the outside terminals of the gas valve. Based on your post information, both gas valve solenoids are defective, and the valve WPW10293048 will need to be replaced.

Jerry, You will want to test the resistance of your oven safety valve. When you check the resistance, you will want to test from Bake to common and broil to common. You would do this with each set to that function. The resistance value should be 216 ohms and if not the would need to replace the oven safety valve.
