The Gas Valve is an OEM part for Whirlpool ovens and ranges. It regulates the flow of gas to the oven burner, ensuring safe and efficient operation by controlling the amount of gas released for ignition and maintaining a steady flame during cooking.

Causes of a bad gas valve can include wear and tear from regular use, exposure to high temperatures, or damage from gas impurities.

Symptoms of a bad gas valve include:

  • The oven not heating or taking a long time to heat up
  • The smell of gas when the oven is turned on
  • Inconsistent or uneven heating
  • The oven failing to maintain the set temperature

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Hello Byron. You need to flip the regulator on the gas valve to lp and adjust the orifice on the valve to the proper flame. All blue and no yellow in the flame.

Richard, With an oven sensor in the unit the temperature differential should only be a 5 to 10 degrees. This issue sounds like you may have a bad oven sensor WPW10181986.

Heather, You will want to test your oven safety valve to make sure that it is good. The way to do this is to check for 216 ohms on the terminals bake to common and broil to common on the safety vavle. If it does not read 216 then the valve is bad and will need to be replaced. You can also do an amp draw on the ignitor to ensure that you are getting 3.2 to 3.6 amps. If not then ignitor is bad. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Dawn V. for Model Number SF362LXSQO

Good morning, my oven will not turn on, heat up, nothing. When I turn on the bake function, timer comes on and counts down but oven will not do nothing. There are no clicking sounds as if the ignitor was trying to ignite the gas. I do not smell any gas when I turn the oven on, however, when I turn the broiler on, there are 2 clicks tryng to ignite the broiler but still nothing, no gas smell either. I was told by my brother this might be some sort of valve, could you please let me know? Thank you

Hello Dawn. You will need to check and see if the igniter in the oven is sparking. If not, then make sure the igniter is good and the wiring is good. If so, you may need to order and replace the spark module on the unit.

Chris, First thing, check and make sure the power cord is attached to a properly polarized and grounded 120 VAC outlet. A proper ground is very important for the range to operate properly. Then you'll need to make several tests at the gas distribution valve. You'll need a multi meter to test voltage and resistances. At the valve body terminals, with the wires labeled and remove from the middle terminal to each of the outer terminals, you should read 215 ohms resistance. With the wires reconnected, when you select the bake cycle, you should have a reading of 8 to 18 VDC across the red and orange wires. When you make a broil selection you should have the same 8 to 18 VDC,across the orange and blue wires. If all checks are proper(within 10%) repalce the oven bake burner and igniter. Here's a link to meter usage, should you need it. [http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html]
