The Valve is an OEM part for Whirlpool refrigerators. This valve controls the flow of water into the ice maker and water dispenser, ensuring the proper operation of these features.

Causes of a bad fridge valve can include wear and tear over time, mineral deposits clogging the valve, electrical malfunctions, or damage from freezing. Regular use can also lead to the degradation of internal components, impacting the valve's functionality.

Symptoms of a bad valve include:

  • Water dispenser not working
  • Ice maker not producing ice
  • Leaks or water pooling around the valve
  • Unusual noises during water dispensing

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Water Valve (Part Number: OEM18054681)

Hello André, thank you for contacting APP, There may be a few things that could cause this. I’m not exactly sure what is meant by the Water/Ice Kit, but the Dual Valve WP12956105 near the Filter Head may not be closing properly immediately after the unit is done dispensing water, also there is a check valve in the Filter Head WPW10216070 that may be having issues. I would also recommend being sure your water pressure to the unit is in the correct range, about 40-60psi, if too low or too high the valve may have difficulty seating after dispensing. You may also try disconnecting the water line at the valve and the door connector and trimming them smooth and even, if possible, with a razor knife and then firmly seating them back in their connections, this will prevent small air bubbles, that can cause an issue like this, from getting into the lines during dispensing, if attempting this repair be sure to trim as little as possible off of the ends of the line. Finally, you can splice in a check valve that will also help in preventing this issue, this tends to work better the closer to the dispenser end of the line you get, but can be placed anywhere between the valve itself and the dispenser behind the User Interface; if attempting this repair you will need to measure the size of the water line to get the correct check valve, the 1/4” check valve is WP2314271 and the 5/16” check valve is 8201815.

Rich, replacing both the diverter valve WP12956105 and the main inlet valve WPW10270395 would ensure that the failure of one valve has not affected the other. Replacing the main inlet valve would be necessary though as it is not closing properly.

Alan, this can occur if the water filter EDR4RXD1 is starting to fail. However, if the water filter is new, it is possible that the valve WP12956105 is starting to weaken and not close properly.

Donny, Thanks for the question!!! This noise is known as water hammer. It could be a bad valve or it could be a pressure issue with the house plumbing. Replacing the valve may solve the issue. Your local hardware store should also carry a device called a water hammer arrestor. The arrestor would most likely be the best option to solve the issue.

Aaron, You will want to try to push the hose up in the valve more and see if it slips in a little further. If it does not then it sounds like you may have received a faulty valve.

Hello Ed, there is a dual water valve (water dispense/ice maker fill) and water chiller tank to the right of the ice maker in the fresh food ceiling, all water goes thru the chiller tank first then the water valve,, check the tan or tubing near it is frozen and if the dual valve is working correctly.

Hello Pbr, The water overflowing would be caused by low water pressure to the machine or a failing water valve. The frost is normally caused by an ice door that is not sealing when closing, allowing room temperature air that contains humidity to enter the unit. This humidity from the room temperature air condenses and forms a frost.

Rob, It is very possible that the valve would have calcium build up and cause this issue.
