Symptoms of a bad water inlet valve include:

  • Washing machine not filling with water or filling slowly
  • Leaks or water drips around the valve or water supply connections
  • Improper water temperature mixing, resulting in incorrect wash temperatures
  • Error codes or warning lights related to water supply or fill issues

Causes of a faulty water inlet valve can include sediment buildup or obstructions within the valve, mechanical wear and tear, electrical malfunctions, or problems with the solenoid that controls the valve's operation.

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore washing machines.

Charles, Here's the basic information. " REMOVING THE WATER VALVE Unplug refrigerator or disconnect power. Turn off the water supply to the refrigerator. Pull the refrigerator away from the wall so that you can access the rear of the unit. Disconnect the water line from its fitting. Remove the four hex-head screws from the water valve access cover, but do not remove the cover at this time. Remove the hex-head screw from the tube clamp on the water tube, and remove the clamp from the tube. Pull the end of the water tube from the quick-disconnect on the water valve. Remove the hex-head screw from the water valve bracket. Pull the water valve access cover out from the rear of the unit and position it so you can access the water valve. 12. Remove the water valve from the access cover. Disconnect the wires connectors from the water valve terminals. NOTE: The connectors and valve terminals are polarized so they cannot be interchanged. Pull the water tubing out of the water valve quick-disconnects and remove the valve. Reverse the procedure to install valve and test for operation."

Hello Julian. Make sure the supply line going to the icemaker has a smooth flat cut and insert it into the compressor fitting on the water valve WP2315576 and press it down until it locks into place.

Hello Bud. You will need to test and see if the icemaker is sending power to the water valve. If not, you will need to replace the icemaker 4317943 in the unit. If there is power, but no water, and the water is turn on and is working, you will need to replace the water valve WP2315576 in the unit. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Hello Julian. You need to press down on the compression fittings on the water valve WP2315576 to release the locking rings and be able to pull out the water lines. Make sure you are pressing and pulling the lines at the same time on the water valve. If not, the lines will not release from the water valve.

Hi Rich. At the water valve, press in on the yellow locking collar. Push in all the way on the tube to see if it is pushed in all the way. With it pressed in then pull the tubing out and inspect it foe cracks. if you have enough tubing then use a sharp utility knife to cut it exactly square on the end and try it again. If the tubing leaks out of the water valve part # WP2315576. The tubing is part# W10823511. Thank You.

I am replacing a defective inlet valve PART NUMBER: 2182104 with AP3961809. This is what is recommended at the Kenmore Sears site However, the old part 2182104 had two connections which are both screw on connections. The lower connection on the AP3961809 is not a screw on any more, so how do I connect it? Also, am I correct that the lower connection in the photo is the water source (water in) connection and the upper is the connection to the ice maker (water out)?

Hello Alan, First you need to check the actual temperature in the freezer compartment. If it doesn't get below 20°F, the ice maker thermostat will never cycle. If your temperature is below 20°F, remove the white cover from the front of the ice maker and tape the door switch down. Now you need a piece of insulated wire at least 3 inches long. Strip the ends and jump the 120Vac from the "T" terminal to the "H" terminal. The wire will have to be held there for at least 60 seconds or until you hear a quiet little "click" from the ice maker. If the ice maker doesn't cycle, check for voltage to the ice maker. There is a fusible link in the power supply line to the ice maker in the red wire. It is clipped to the ice maker to prevent the mold heater from getting too hot. It must be put back into the clip if removed as without it, it can be a hazard. If it cycles replace the ice maker.
