The Water Inlet Valve is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool washing machines. It is a crucial component responsible for controlling the flow of water into the washing machine tub during the fill cycles.

Symptoms of a bad water inlet valve include:

  • Washing machine not filling with water or filling slowly
  • Leaks or water drips around the valve or water supply connections
  • Improper water temperature mixing, resulting in incorrect wash temperatures
  • Error codes or warning lights related to water supply or fill issues

Causes of a faulty water inlet valve can include sediment buildup or obstructions within the valve, mechanical wear and tear, electrical malfunctions, or problems with the solenoid that controls the valve's operation.

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore washing machines.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Water Inlet Valve (Part Number: OEM18021768)

Thomas

I have had problems with the ice maker producing ice cubes. I basically replaced the ice maker (believing the thermostat was bad). Still There is no ice production unless I actuallly pour water in the ice cube tray. My concern is that the Water Inlet valve is the problem... its part number is 2182104 which according to your website is now 2315576. This tested 170.0 ohms. Is this reading low?? I have cleaned the mesh filter inside and the water line runs clear water. I did not observe any ice frozen or blocking water into the cube tray.

Hello Thomas. Yes, if the icemaker is new, and the fill tube is not frozen, then you will need to replace the water valve WP2315576. Make sure the water is turned on the unit. Hope this helps.

Doug for Model Number KTRS22MJL00

I'm getting water in the freezer that eventually blocks the drain and after enough time the water runs into the fridge. I traced it back to water leaking (or spilling) from the fill tube that goes into the icemaker. The tube is all the way in the icemaker. It almost looks like there is too much water pressure and that's causing it to splash out. My question is this. Does the water inlet valve do anything to control the water pressure or is it simply a timer? If I back off the filler adjustment screw I still get the water in the fridge, but I get fewer ice cubes.

Hello Doug. The water valve just opens when power is sent to it and closes when the power is not sent to the water valve WP2315576. It does not control the pressure of the water on the unit. Hope this helps.

Hello Hector. The fingers in the icemaker should be turning if the unit is cycling. The power does not come to the valve WP2315576 until the icemaker is in harvest mode. Hope this helps.

Hello John. Make sure the fill tube is not frozen. If it is clear, cycle the icemaker and test for power to the water valve. If there is power there and no water, replace the valve WP2315576. No power, or the icemaker does not cycle, replace the icemaker 4317943. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. Hello Matt. If the voltage is good, and the fill tube is not frozen, then you will need to replace the water valve WP2315576. Remove the water line from the valve going to the icemaker and see if water comes out when the icemaker cycles. If so, the line is frozen. If not, replace the valve. Hope this helps.

Hello Jayc. The water valve will only turn on when the icemaker cycles. Check and make sure the fill tube to the icemaker is not frozen. Also, test for power going to the water valve when the icemaker is in harvest mode. If there is no power there, you will need to replace the icemaker 4317943. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter.
