The Water Valve is an OEM part for Whirlpool ice machines. This part controls the flow of water into the ice maker, ensuring it receives the correct amount of water for ice production.

Causes of a bad water valve can include wear and tear from regular use, mineral buildup from hard water, or electrical failures.

Symptoms of a bad water valve include:

  • The ice machine not producing ice
  • Slow or inconsistent ice production
  • Leaking water from the valve area
  • No water entering the ice machine
  • You should replace the water valve if it becomes faulty or damaged.

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Valve (Part Number: OEM17947182)

Teresa

We have a Kitchenaid under counter ice maker that we have just replaced the circulation pump. Ice maker is working now. We also cleaned the screen of the water inlet valve which was covered in gunk. Ice maker is working but after a few cycles, the water in the reservoir gets low and the pump struggles because the water level is low. The water refill fills to overflow the first time but each time after that, the refill does not seem to get to the overflow part. After many cycles, the water level gets lower and lower and then in turn the pump struggles with low water level. We have checked everything. The unit is working great other than this. Is this the water inlet valve (even though we cleaned the screen)? Thanks so much for your help.

Don, It's not likely a fill valve issue at this point. If the valve was stuck open, the reservoir would over fill and you'd have water in the ice bin. and flowing out the door. It sounds more like a evaporator thermistor, or possibly a control board, it's attempting to make ice, but the evaporator isn't cooling and forming the ice slab. The thermistors and control board would be the place to start testing.

Hello Donna. This is an HVAC repair and you need the evaporator replaced WPW10218037. It sounds like it is not releasing the ice and sticking.

Debie, You need to check and see if there is power going to the water valve when the icemaker cycles. If so, replace the water valve on the unit. If not, or the icemaker does not cycle, you will need to replace the icemaker on the unit. Also, check and make sure the fill tube on the unit is not frozen and clogged. If so, replace the water valve and thaw out the fill tube.

Dale, You will want to check the ice door to make sure that the ice door is closing properly. If it is not or if it has any type of air gap it will cause the ice bin to freezer up.

FJQ, The icemaker not getting enough water would cause foggy ice. The pump may or may not need to be replaced. With it running and not having water go through it could possibly damage the bearings and it would not be bad to replace it.
