For Whirlpool Dishwasher Water Inlet Valve (Part Number: OEM18043101)

Alan for Model Number MDB4000AWB

I recently did an overhaul job on my 15 year old Maytag MDB4000AWB dishwasher. I replaced all hoses, gaskets, seals, and washers and installed the pump rebuild kit. It now runs like a charm, BUT, there is a loud hum that lasts about a minute before the water inlet valve opens and starts filling the tub with water. It does this before every fill during the wash and rinse cycle. It goes away when the valve opens and starts filling. There are no hums at all while filling or the motor is running during wash and rinse. Could the water inlet valve cause this? It seems to be the obvious culprit.

Alan, Yes, the issue could be the fill valve WP99001359, after 15 years of service there could be an issue with the plungers and diaphragms inside the valve. It could also be due to a water pressure issue, so make sure you flush the water supply line before you install the replacement valve.

Hello Boonji, The water line should ground the water valve WP99001359 and if a ground wire were needed to the other metal plate, the manufacturer would have included it on the new part.

Steve for Model Number Jenn-Air JDB4950AWP

The dishwasher stopped filling up with water last week. I replaced the water inlet valve this morning and the unit is still not getting water delivered to it. I can feel the inlet valve click on but no water flowing into to the unit. I did check the inlet water valve water supply hose to insure water was running into the valve and that checked out. So the problem seems to be from the valve to the injection hose. Any ideas or help will be appreciated. Steve for Model Number JDB4950AWP Jenn-air Dishwasher ANSWER Hello Steve, You can use a short piece of hose to allow you to blow through the injector hose and injector. The only problem these normally give is if a mouse chews through it and the water goes into the floor. I would try dis-connecting the outlet side of the water valve and see if it allows water to pass. It is much more likely to get a mechanically defective water valve than the injector stopping up. Be very careful doing this because water and electricity can create a dangerous situation. I would hold the valve over a cake pan or equivalent, (a non-conductive pan would be safer), and make sure it passes water when energized. Answered by AppliancePartsPros.com | Thursday, August 08, 2013 Flushed the injector hose. Water is flowing to the unit when connected directly to the waterline. How can I tell if I have a defective valve? I purchased it from your company how do I go about a return if it is indeed defective? Also could it be the water level control switch or the float that is not allowing the valve to open? Thanks.

Steve, You will want to check to make sure that you are getting 120vac to the water valve. If you are then you will want to check the injector and injector hose to ensure that there are no clogs in the hose or injector that would cause water not to flow in.

Wes, With the unit overflowing when in the off position it sounds like the water valve WP99001359 is stuck partially open and would need to be replaced.

Jeff, You will want to get down into the pump and make sure that there is no blockage or clogs. Take the drain line off and check for obstructions on the drain side of the pump assembly. If this checks ok then you may need a new drain pump WP6-917641. You would want to check to make sure that the drain is getting power. If there is power but not running then the pump is bad. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Nate for Model Number admiral dishwasher DWB1000AWX

I checked the float and inlet valve, both are working fine, i pulled the black hose off the inlet valve during the cycle to see if it was allowing water through which it was, but it's still not filling up the dishwasher, what is the purpose of the injuctor wrap seems like the water is backed up from there. When i attach the black hose back on the inlet valve and start the cycle then pull the hose back off the water comes back out the hose could that be blocked?

1 Answer

Nate, It isn't likely the water injector WP912533or the injector hose 912633 is blocked, you may have kinked the injector hose during your testing, but we presume the fill issue was there to begin with. Have you checked the dishwasher drain hose for proper routing, and the plumbing to make sure neither is causing a "syphon" effect when the dishwasher is filling.

Hello John, The resistance of the water valve WP99001359 doesn't tell you if the valve physically opens internally so, I would replace it if it isn't passing the water. I would check for ac voltage at the water inlet valve electrical terminals. If it doesn't get voltage, it will never open. If it does get voltage, the valve is bad. If it does, there is a technical sheet behind the kick panel that can be used follow the circuits to the trouble.
