The Whirlpool refrigerator dual solenoid icemaker water inlet valve is an OEM replacement part responsible for controlling the water flow to the refrigerator's icemaker. It is typically located at the back of the refrigerator, near the bottom, where the water supply line connects to the refrigerator. The water valve receives signals from the refrigerator's control board to open and close, allowing water to flow into the icemaker.


The Whirlpool water inlet valve can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

This part fixes the following symptoms:

  • Failure to make ice or limited ice production
  • Loud or unusual noises coming from the water valve

Hello Larry. There should be a wiring diagram on the refrigerator. You will need to check and make sure the fill tube to the icemaker is not froze up. If so, you will need to thaw it out. Hope this helps.

There is no electrical power at the water valve electrical terminals when the ice maker switch is activated. Therefore we have no ice being made. In order to check the integrity of the water valve, an external electrical supply was connected to the water valve terminals which resulted in water flowing in to the ice maker. From this we deduce that the water valve is okay. What causes the electrical supply to get to the terminals of the water valve?

Hello Jeff. Yes, you can not run a reverse osmosis water supply to the refrigerator. It needs a constant 25 psi water pressure at a minimum to operate correctly. Hope this helps.

When cycling, water continues to flow into the ice maker for a few seconds and spills into the ice cube storage bin (which then leaks into the ice dispenser). Is it the water valve? Also, the ice chopper which is activated on the outside of the freezer door has not worked when testing the icemaker with only a few cubes in the bin. The water dispenser has continued to work. Is this a second problem or does it automatically stop working when the bin is almost empty?

Hi Rod! You will want to check at the valve, when the dispenser is pressed to verify your getting voltage to the valve. If no voltage is present, the switch may be bad WP2162361. If voltage is present then the water valve will have to be replaced 4318046. Hope this helps!
