Hello Teressa, I would pull the tech sheet and pull the fault codes. ACTIVATING THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODE 1. Be sure the dryer is in standby mode (plugged in with all indicators off, or with only the Done indicator on). 2. Select any one button (except Pause/Cancel) and follow the steps below, using the same button (remember the button): Press/hold 2-5 seconds ? Release for 2-5 seconds ? Press/hold 2-5 seconds ? Release for 2-5 seconds ? Press/hold 2-5 seconds 3. If this test mode has been entered successfully, all indicators on the console are illuminated for 5 seconds with 88 showing in the Estimated Time Remaining two-digit display.

Patsy, There are several things that could cause the dryer not to heat. You would want to check the thermostats and thermal fuse for continuity. Make sure that the heating element is not broken. If all this checks ok then There are 2 components other than the thermostats which would cause the heating element not to work. First is the motor and second the timer. The best option is to disconnect the power to the unit and access the heating element. Disconnect one wire that is going to the heating element, preferably the one on the thermostat side. Plug the unit back up and using a multimeter you will want to turn the dryer on and test for 120 vac at the terminal on the heater where the wire was disconnected. What this will do is eliminate the heater element itself and the motor. If there is 120 vac at this point then you know the heater is good and the motor is good because the other 120 vac coming through the thermostats is the timer side of the circuit. If there is not 120 vac at that point then you will want to test the other terminal on the heater and check for 120 vac. If there is not 120 vac then the motor would be bad and if there is 120 vac then the heater would be the issue. If there is 120 vac at each point then the heater is faulty.

Hello Pete. No, you have the unit wired wrong. You need to have one wire to the heater, then the high limit WP3977767 goes to the other terminal of the element. Then the other wire goes to the other side of the high limit.

Hello John, This can be due to a sticking thermostat but is more commonly caused by a ducting issue that is holding the high temperatures in the unit too long. If the ducting is clear, (no clogs or crimps), and is as short and straight as possible, you should still replace any of the ducting that is flexible since all of the major manufacturers have determined that this is a major cause of issues. Normally replacing the thermostats will not help when the issue is a heating element failing unless taking the units' average operating temperature shows the thermostats not opening.

Nathan, based on the model number given the heating element, part number 279838, is the correct replacement and will work on your Kenmore dryer. The parts are built to last from the manufacturer. However, if it does fail within the first year of purchase we carry a one year parts warranty, you may contact us for a replacement. Thanks.

Jsunnyb, Going to the heating element there should be a wire that comes off the high limit thermostat that would go to one of the terminals of the heating element and there would be another red wire that would lead to the motor that connects to the other side of the element.
