Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You
The mixer beater would not complete a complete turn. Steven W. • Camas , WA • January 07, 2024
My KitchenAid Professional Series 6 mixer which is about 20 years old suddenly stopped working. The motor would run but the beater would not complete a full circle without a push from me. I took the gearbox apart to figure out why the beater would not turn and discovered that the worm follower gear had most of the teeth stripped from it. I believe this was caused by a lack of grease. As I removed the gearbox cover, I noticed that most all the grease had been thrown to one side of the gearbox....

The control assembly on my kitchenaid mixer became intermittent J H T. • Liberty , TX • March 17, 2014
The fix was very easy. Control assembly is easy to access by removing 5 phillips screws. Unplug the wiring from the old assembly being careful to note which wire goes to which connector. Install the new assembly and connect the wiring.

Blower wheel center hub was stripped making lots of noise when the dryer was running as it rattled on the motor shaft, drum belt was worn Michael W. • Vacaville , CA • August 30, 2021
The blower wheel had been previously “repaired,” but the repairman did not install a retaining clip or clamp, so the new part was destroyed in about a year and a half, as the motor shaft rounded all the square edges in the plastic hub. The old blower wheel came off easily and the new part was a perfect fit. The center clamp that comes with the blower wheel kit would probably hold it in place by itself, but I also purchased and installed the retaining clip (#35) as well, because the end of the...

2001 vintage kitchenaid professional 6 mixer suddenly starting knocking badly and then seized up Richard R. • Honolulu , HI • April 01, 2017
Opened up transmission housing and removed all gearing to inspect for worn parts. The Professional 6 is all metal (except for the transmission housing cover) so just a couple of gears looked worn. Planetary needed adjustment, although the gearing was solid. Replaced the transmission housing cover with a new metal version. Cleaned out the old grease (all that grease...) and repacked the gears. Closed it up, ran it for 30 minutes to set in the new grease, and everything sounds smooth and...

Stripped worm gear this is the fourth time in 6 years my wife uses this 6 quart mixer a lot! Philip R. • Wichita , KS • March 06, 2015
This time I replaced the front and rear bearings and thrust bearing and all the gears. The hardest part is thoroughly cleaning out all the old grease. After re-greasing and assembly mixer ran like new. I wish a more robust worm gear was available.
A snap ring plier is a must for this job.

The mixer was not spinning slowly at all went from fast to "going airborne" David A. • Stockbridge , MA • October 06, 2015
First replaced the sensor and electric circuit board, that did not fix the problem. Before I sent back those parts, I instead decided to try replacing the motor. That was in fact what was broken, so I am sending back the board and sensor. This company made it so easy to buy the parts and when I had a question they were very helpful on the phone. Replacing the motor was so simple, all that you need is a screwdriver.

Looked online for parts and drawings to see how it went together and found appliance parts pro. They had the most complete set of parts in stock of several places I checked. The drawings were great so I could see how it came apart. Went out to the garage with it and took it apart. Checked the drawings and watched the video (video was an older mixer but close enough.)
