Normally, I hire someone to come fix washer or dryer problems as time is limited and if the cost is close or more than the machine, I buy a new one instead. But since we are on shelter-in-place, I figure I could repair it since I have more time on my hands and my brother assured me, it was not hard to do. I took the top panel, door off and then looked online to find a service manual, which allowed me to take the front panel off. My suspected drain hose was the failure mode: the rubber tube... Fix excessive vibration and loud spinning noise in your washer. Balance ring assembly stabilizes the drum during spin cycles. Advanced DIY repair.
With all the bouncing around the shocks appeared to be done in but that was not the issue. The key was the balance ring. It had leaked all the fluid out causing all the beads to clump. This caused the drum to wobble wildly and not spin at speed. Getting to the ring to replace it is not a trivial task and took me several hours. Would have been much easier with help as the drum is quite heavy. The on-line video's are very handy and should be watched before attempting this job to save you a... Read more
