A bit of research on the internet indicated the most likely problem was with the defrost system. I found the service manual for the refrigerator and was able to determine that the defrost heater and thermostat passed the self test. The drain tube for for the defrost cycle seemed to be blocked, so I googled the repair & it sent me to AppliancePartsPros. Toughest part of this repair is figuring out how to get things apart. Amana doesn't provide you a repair manual showing how to disengage the various plastic covers. SO I FIGURED THAT ALL THE MECHANICAL PARTS OF IT WERE FINE SO THE LOGICAL THING TO DO WAS TO REPLACE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS WHICH CONSISTED OF THE THERMOSTAT {THE BRAIN} AND THE CONTROL MODULE WHICH I PURCHASED AT A VERY REASONABLE PRICE . Seals the freezer door to prevent cold air loss and frost buildup. Replace if torn, cracked, or no longer sealing properly. Verify fit by your model number.

So this is a poor design in the first case. Not having a center support in the back almost guarantees a failure there eventually.
