Washer squeaked when tub is stopped during spin cycle Daniel K. • Grafton , WI • July 22, 2018
My Maytag washer make a loud screech when the washer tub needed to be stopped by the brake. Last year, I had replaced the suspension springs, the snubber ring, the drive belt and the drain pump. Those repairs worked fine, but a few weeks later, the screeching noise started. So I figured it was the brake system. I thought it would be better to replace the brake rotor and stator together as a set since I was going to disassemble both and they were 18 years old anyway. I decided to replace the...

The pump on my washing machine went bad William P. • El Paso , TX • April 26, 2014
It was a relatively easy fix. Removed the small access panel at the back of the washing machine after unplugging the unit. The pump is right there. Disconnected the two hoses to the pump, catching some water with towels. Removed three retaining screws, then realized I had not disconnected the belt from under the unit. Easy fix, tilted the unit and disconnected the belt. Put in the new pump , connected the hoses, then reconnected the belts. Works like new!

This washer lid switch is the safety interlock that tells the machine the lid is closed. Replacing a worn switch restores proper spin and cycle operation and helps prevent nuisance shutoffs when the lid is bumped or opened.
- Detects lid position and enables washer operation only when the lid is closed
- Interrupts power with the lid open for user safety
- Typical symptoms of failure: washer won't start or won't spin, stops mid-cycle, or runs only when pressing down on the lid
- Mechanical position sensor; it does not lock the lid
What's included: 1 lid switch Install notes:
- Disconnect power before servicing; verify the tub is fully stopped
- Access is typically from the main top or cabinet—remove screws or release spring clips as designed
- Note wire routing and mounting orientation; transfer any existing hardware and secure the ground as originally installed
- Test lid-close operation before reassembling and running a cycle

Washer didn't spin during spin cycle Ronney S. • Miami , FL • February 09, 2017
I had removed three screws behind the control board cover of the washer, to access the old lid switch. I checked the continuety of the of the switch with a multimeter and it obviously failed the the test by displaying infinity of <1, rather than being 0. I removed the old switch with a flathead screw driver, I tested the new one and installed it in no time. Problem solved!!!

I replaced the switch, the plunger, plunger guide and the lid cam, but the cam still didn't turn on the switch. Turned out someone had stood on the washer and bent the lid slightly, not enough to notice, but since I had ruled out just about everything else I started looking at the lid itself. I ended up bending it back close to it's original shape and now it works fine. I guess I learned a few things about washing machines though.
